Summary:
The Medication Assistant coordinates and administers medication to assisted living residents as assigned.
Licenses/Certification:
Must complete all required training/competencies in proper handling and administration of medication as per state and company requirements. Valid CPR/AED certification within 60 days of employment
Experience:
One year experience in the nursing field is preferred. Must be at least 18 years of age.
Job Functions:
Following the rights of medication administration, accurately and promptly implements physicians' orders with medication administrations. Medication administration for assigned residents and documents administration or refusals per local, state and federal rules and regulations. Promptly communicates repeated medication refusals, medication errors, and actual/suspected change of condition to the appropriate health care provider. Communicates to the prescribing licensed health care professional if the resident requires prolonged use of an as needed (PRN) medication. Participates in orientation and in-service training for personnel. Ensures that supplies are utilized economically and that equipment is clean and maintained in a safe manner. Reports and records pertinent observations and reactions regarding residents. Performs other tasks as assigned.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Has a clear understanding of medication administration. Ability to stand for long periods of time. Skilled in documentation in electronically based health records Ability to work cooperatively as a member of a team. Ability to communicate effectively with residents and their family members, and at all levels of the organization. Ability to react decisively and quickly in emergency situations.
