We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Life Skills Instructor (SPMI) to provide structured life skills training and psychoeducational support to individuals diagnosed with Serious & Persistent Mental Illness (SPMI). This role plays a critical part in helping residents build independence, improve emotional regulation, and develop meaningful daily routines in a recovery-oriented environment. You will work under clinical supervision to deliver curriculum-based instruction, reinforce individualized goals, and support residents in achieving greater stability and self-sufficiency. Key ResponsibilitiesLife Skills Training & Service Delivery Facilitate individual and group life skills sessions using structured, approved curriculum Teach and support development in: Daily living and self-care Emotional regulation and coping skills Communication and conflict resolution Safety, rights, and self-advocacy Routine building and independence Follow established lesson plans and adapt teaching methods to meet individual learning needs Resident Support & Skill Reinforcement Reinforce goals outlined in Individualized Teaching Plans (ITPs) Provide hands-on guidance through prompting, modeling, and encouragement Monitor and document resident progress, engagement, and challenges Report behavioral or emotional changes to clinical leadership Crisis Awareness & Safety Utilize de-escalation techniques (CPI) within scope of training Maintain a safe environment for residents and staff Escalate concerns appropriately following chain of command Documentation & Compliance Complete accurate and timely documentation in accordance with company policies and regulatory requirements Maintain strict confidentiality and HIPAA compliance Follow all organizational policies, procedures, and professional standards Team Collaboration Work collaboratively with clinical and residential teams Participate in trainings, meetings, and supervision Support consistency of programming across multiple locations QualificationsRequired High School Diploma or GED Minimum 1 year of experience working with individuals with mental health or behavioral health needs Strong communication and interpersonal skills Ability to follow structured instruction and clinical direction Ability to travel between program locations Preferred Associate's degree in Psychology, Human Services, Behavioral Health, or related field Experience in life skills training, psychoeducation, or psychiatric rehabilitation Experience in residential or community-based mental health settings Required Certifications (Can Be Obtained After Hire) Mental Health First Aid (within 3 months) CPI Certification (within 3 months) Medication Technician Certification (within 3 months) Fundamentals of Brain Injury Training (within 6 months) Completion of all required background checks, TB testing, and onboarding requirements What We're Looking For Compassionate, patient, and professional demeanor Strong observational and documentation skills Ability to manage group dynamics and redirect behavior Commitment to trauma-informed and recovery-oriented care Ability to remain calm in high-pressure situations Work Environment & Physical Requirements Active role requiring standing, walking, and movement throughout residential settings Participation in training-based crisis prevention interventions Flexible scheduling based on program needs Why Join Us?
