Overview Northern Hope Center is seeking a team of Peer Crisis Specialists to join our team. These roles provides immediate, peer-based support to adults experiencing mental health or behavioral crises. The ideal candidates bring lived experience and apply structured crisis-stabilization skills to support recovery. Peer Crisis Specialists work as a coordinated team to provide mentorship, emotional support, and practical guidance during difficult moments, while reinforcing safety, boundaries, and consistent follow-through. Responsibilities Provide crisis intervention and management for individuals experiencing mental health or behavioral emergencies. Offer empathetic support and mentorship to clients, utilizing lived experience to foster trust and rapport. Conduct behavioral health assessments and develop individualized crisis response plans. Utilize motivational interviewing techniques to encourage engagement and positive decision-making. Document interactions and progress accurately using Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems. Collaborate with clinical teams to coordinate care and ensure clients receive appropriate services. Assist clients in developing coping strategies and connecting them with community resources. Maintain a calm demeanor in high-stress situations to ensure the safety of clients and staff alike. Experience Lived experience with mental health challenges, substance use recovery, or related areas is highly valued. Prior experience in crisis intervention, behavioral health, or social work is preferred but not required; training will be provided. Knowledge of crisis management techniques, mental health counseling, addiction counseling, or mentoring is advantageous. Familiarity with EHR systems for documentation purposes is a plus. Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to motivate and support individuals in distress. Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team in a fast-paced environment.
