We are currently recruiting on behalf of a trusted family in Orange County to find a behaviorally trained Respite Worker for an elementary age child. They are a warm, energetic, and loving family that are looking to add a trusted provider to their family.
Job Overview Important:
This child can display aggressive behaviors. Prior hands-on experience managing aggressive behaviors is a must for this role. Must have own car and reliable transportation.
Ideal/Minimum Hours:
Tuesday & Friday Must:
2:00 pm pickup from school in Newport Beach, drive to home in Irvine, home program 2:00•5:30 pm
Optional:
Additional overlap hours at school (e.g., 12:00•2:00 pm), at parent's discretion Sunday (Occasional, 1-2 times per month preferred) Hours at parent's discretion, generally within a 10:00 am•5:30 pm window, with a minimum of 3 hours Please note: This schedule is specific to this family's needs. As a Behavioral Respite Worker, you will support children with behavioral health challenges, providing relief to families by offering temporary care and support. You will work closely with children to implement behavior management strategies, create safe environments, and offer a calming and nurturing presence. This role is a great opportunity for Registered Behavior Technicians (RBTs) who are looking for a change—whether you're seeking a less structured clinical environment, more one-on-one interaction, or a change in schedule, this position offers a meaningful way to apply your skills in a different setting.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide direct care and supervision to a child with behavioral and developmental needs. Assist with transportation to activities and therapies, including pickup from school/camp in Newport Beach. Assist children in daily living activities, fostering social skills, and promoting independence. Observe and report any behavioral changes or concerns to the care team and family. Create a positive, supportive, and structured environment for children in your care. Maintain routines and help with simple snacks or meals. Collaborate with families and other team members to ensure continuity of care.
Requirements:
High school diploma or equivalent (required); Bachelor's degree in a related field (preferred). Must have own car and reliable transportation Experience working with children with behavioral needs (autism, ADHD, PDA, or other related conditions). Must have prior experience managing aggressive behaviors. Knowledge of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA). Understanding of neurodiversity and emotional regulation. Training in behavior management techniques (ABA, CPI, Nonviolent Crisis Intervention, etc.). Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to handle high-stress situations with patience and calmness. Must pass background checks and provide references. CPR and First Aid certification (preferred but not required). Occasional Sunday availability preferred (1-2 times per month) Ability to maintain confidentiality, punctuality, and professionalism. 3+ years experience in child care Why Apply Through Legacy Kids?
