After-School ABA Therapist / Behavioral Support for Gifted 8-

Year-Old Child Schedule:

Monday-Friday, approximately 3:00 PM-7:00

Part-time; consistent, long-term commitment preferred We are seeking a warm, energetic, and experienced ABA Therapist, RBT, or behavioral support professional to work one-on-one with our exceptionally bright, verbal, and active 8-year-old son during after-school hours. Although he is in third grade, he is academically advanced and currently works at approximately a sixth-grade level in math and language arts. He has an exceptional ability to learn and enjoys challenging academic material, reading, LEGO, sports, and exploring new interests. We are looking for someone who will recognize and respect his advanced abilities while also supporting his behavioral, social, emotional-regulation, and executive-functioning needs. This is a natural-environment role focused on helping him apply skills throughout his daily routine—not simply providing table-based therapy. Activities may include extracurricular classes, sports, advanced homework or enrichment activities, playdates, meals, evening routines, and transitions between school, home, and community activities. Responsibilities Use ABA-based and positive behavior-support strategies throughout daily activities. Provide appropriately challenging academic support and enrichment while helping him remain engaged, organized, and regulated. Support transitions, schedules, instructions, multi-step routines, organization, time management, and task completion. Build self-regulation, flexibility, frustration tolerance, patience, social awareness, communication, and age-appropriate peer interactions. Encourage participation in classes, sports, playdates, and group activities while promoting independence and avoiding unnecessary assistance. Reinforce positive behavior and help him respond appropriately when expectations or plans change. Help him manage frustration when work is difficult, activities are interrupted, or situations do not go as expected. Observe behavior, identify patterns and effective strategies, and collect data when appropriate. Provide parents with concise updates on progress, challenges, and successful approaches. Collaborate with parents and other professionals to maintain consistency across settings. Maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries. Qualifications & Skills Experience working with children with autism, ADHD, neurodivergence, giftedness, or related behavioral or executive-functioning needs. Knowledge of Applied Behavior Analysis and positive, reinforcement-based behavior support. RBT certification or ABA experience strongly preferred. Experience supporting academically advanced or gifted children is highly valued. Strong academic skills, particularly in elementary and middle-school math and language arts, are preferred. Experience in natural environments such as homes, schools, extracurricular activities, camps, or community settings highly valued. Patient, calm, warm, energetic, and able to build a genuine connection with a child. Able to recognize and support advanced academic abilities without losing focus on behavioral and social goals. Able to balance structure with flexibility and know when to provide support versus step back to encourage independence. Strong communication, observation, organization, and collaboration skills. Reliable, punctual, and consistent. Valid driver's license and reliable transportation preferred. The ideal candidate genuinely enjoys working with children and understands that effective behavioral support is built on connection, consistency, trust, and skill-building. We are looking for someone who can appreciate his exceptional intellectual abilities while helping him manage his behavior, regulate emotions, participate successfully in activities, build friendships, and become increasingly independent. This position may be a good fit for an ABA professional, RBT, behavioral therapist, psychology or education professional, gifted-education specialist, teacher, tutor, or graduate student who enjoys working with a bright and active child in a community-based setting.

Pay:

$30.00 - $35.00 per hour
