Job Description

Description:
The Meriden Public School District seeks applicants for a Climate Specialist position for Hanover Elementary School. The Climate Specialist will work with school staff in supporting the needs of students with behavioral difficulties in the Least Restrictive Environment for each student. The Climate Specialist will work under the direction of the building administration. The Climate Specialist will participate in any training that is provided for staff in strategies to support students and build capacity within the district for accommodating students with behavioral difficulties.
Qualifications:
The Climate Specialist should have the ability to work with students with behavior challenges. Previous training in physical management and deescalation is preferred. Bilingual (Spanish) Required
GENERAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Climate Specialist will perform the following duties in cooperation with, and under the direction of, the building administration. Support students in the acquisition of appropriate social, behavioral and academic skills. Assist in implementing Behavior Intervention Plans for students. Regularly meet with school-based staff to review data and behavior outcomes for students. Participate in FBA reviews. Implement verbal management and de-escalation techniques. Participate in meetings involving students as appropriate or assigned by supervisors. Communicate appropriately with students and staff. Participate in staff training in the area of behavior management and discreet trials. Support the therapeutic milieu for in-district programs. Participate in crisis management as appropriate. Participate in PPTs and child study teams as appropriate. Performs all other duties as assigned by the Building Administration, Behavior Analyst and/or the Director of Pupil Personnel.
