This position provides one-on-one assistance to children with disabilities who are enrolled in a City of Bloomington or Normal Parks & Recreation program. The inclusion aide works to help include a child with a disability in the same environment as their peers. This list may not include all tasks and/or knowledge which may be expected of the employee, nor does it cover all specific duties which may be required. Other duties may be assigned. Assist in actively engaging the child in the recreation programming provided Use positive behavior strategies to promote a safe and respectful environment Implement behavior plans or service plans, when requested Remain composed and use problem-solving skills to handle stressful or unexpected situations effectively Ability to communicate effectively, both written and verbal Work effectively within a team Document and report any incidents, concerns, or changes in behavior to supervisor Physical demands: ability to be as physically active as the child, including running, jumping or walking with the child; ability to physically assist individuals in a wheelchair including pushing or pulling; ability to withstand outdoor temperatures and loud noise levels. Experience working with people with disabilities, preferably school-aged children Must demonstrate initiative, punctuality and dependability Must be a self-starter, can work independently within a team atmosphere Have reliable transportation to/from sites Demonstrate problem solving skills
