Job Description
Job Overview We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Certified Peer Support Specialist to empower individuals on their recovery journeys. In this vital role, you will serve as a relatable advocate and mentor, leveraging your personal experience with behavioral health challenges to inspire hope and facilitate positive change. Your energetic approach will foster trust, promote recovery, and support clients in overcoming mental health and substance use disorders. This paid position offers an opportunity to make a meaningful difference in diverse communities by providing compassionate peer support grounded in shared lived experience. Duties Engage with clients using recovery peer support techniques to promote hope, resilience, and self-advocacy Share personal recovery experiences to motivate and empower individuals facing mental health or substance use challenges Provide crisis management and crisis intervention to de-escalate situations and ensure safety for clients and staff Collaborate with behavioral health teams to develop individualized recovery plans that incorporate harm reduction strategies Assist clients in navigating behavioral health services, including mental health counseling, addiction counseling, and social services Maintain accurate documentation of client interactions using Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems while respecting confidentiality standards Advocate for clients' needs within culturally diverse communities, ensuring respectful and inclusive support tailored to individual backgrounds Skills Strong understanding of behavioral health, mental health conditions, substance use disorders, and co-occurring disorders Proven crisis management and crisis intervention skills to effectively handle urgent situations Experience working with culturally diverse populations, demonstrating sensitivity and cultural competence Ability to mentor and motivate individuals through shared lived experience and peer support advocacy Excellent client communication skills, including active listening and empathetic engagement Knowledge of harm reduction principles and recovery-oriented practices Familiarity with EHR systems for documentation and record keeping while maintaining patient confidentiality
