Parent Advocates must be parents and have a personal experience of mental illness or mental illness with a co-occurring substance use disorder and recovery. Advocate will possess a willingness to share with clients their experience of living with mental illness and managing their role as a parent in a mentor capacity. The Advocate will provide individual and group support services to parents with mental illness or co-occurring mental illness and substance use disorders. They will serve as mentors with the goal of strengthening the consumer's parenting and advocacy skills. In addition, Parent Advocates will focus on teaching positive coping and problem solving skills.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Willingness to share with clients their experience of living with mental illness and managing their role as a parent in a mentor capacity.
- Developing a consumer parent's knowledge and access to available resources, which may aid with their role as a parent or promote mental health.
- Accompanying consumer parents to appointments as needed.
Minimum Education Level:
High School Diploma Experience Required:
Parent with lived experience (personal) with mental health and/or substance use recovery. Bilingual (English and Spanish) preferred
Part Time:
Flexible hours, approximately 10-12 hours per week. Primarily day time hours but may include some evenings or weekends depending on client needs. Background checks (Criminal and Central Registry) and Driver's license with clean driving record required.
