Overview We are seeking a strong, calm, and highly dependable Behavior Specialist to work one-on-one with a 30-year-old male who has recently transitioned from living with his family into a group home setting. This individual has significant behavioral support needs, including periodic aggression and self-injurious behaviors, and requires consistent, skilled supervision and support. This is not a passive caregiving role. The right candidate must be able to remain composed under pressure, follow structured behavior plans, and actively engage in teaching skills while ensuring safety for the individual and others. The individual is supported by a behavior team led by a BCBA, and all services are delivered under a formal Behavior Support Plan (BSP). The Behavior Specialist will accompany him on all family home visits and community outings, maintaining consistency across environments. QBS (Safety-Care) training for de-escalation and crisis management is required and will be provided, with retrains and updates at least annually. Responsibilities Provide 1:1 supervision and direct support in the group home, community, and during family visits. Implement and strictly follow the Behavior Support Plan (BSP) developed by the BCBA-led team. Respond appropriately to aggressive or self-injurious behaviors using approved de-escalation and safety techniques. Teach and support daily living skills, including hygiene, routines, meal-related tasks, and personal care. Actively teach and reinforce communication skills and appropriate coping strategies. Accompany and support the individual during community outings and family home visits, ensuring safety and consistency. Maintain clear, accurate documentation of services, behaviors, and incidents. Communicate effectively with supervisors, the behavior team, and family members. Maintain professional boundaries and adhere to all agency policies and procedures. Requirements Experience with developmental disabilities and high behavioral needs strongly preferred. Must be able to remain calm, firm, and professional in high-stress or crisis situations. Willingness to implement behavior strategies exactly as trained. Ability to work as part of a structured, team-based behavioral model. Must complete and maintain QBS Safety-Care training. Reliable transportation required. Must pass all required background checks. Physical ability to safely intervene as trained when behaviors escalate.
