The Mental Health Support Worker provides support services and case management to families involved with the Department of Social Services & Child Protective Services. The objective of Mental Health Support Workers is to aid parents to increase their capacity of providing safe and stable homes to youth in their care and support families in completing requirements set forth by the courts in aims to reunify families. These supports include referral to community resources, parenting skills counseling, anger management, and basic life skills training. Requirements:
Must have a Bachelor's Degree in Social Work, Education, Sociology, Psychology or a degree related to the Human Services field. Must have working knowledge of the areas of need for adults & children with mental illnesses Must have appropriate clinical skills to facilitate training in daily living skills of adults & children with mental illnesses Must be able to work from a person-centered framework when providing training services Must have clinical interviewing skills and be able to identify clinical risk factors for suicide, violence and other at-risk behaviors. Must be ready to make an Impact on family systems in the Tidewater community.

Duties:
Provide time-limited, community-based mental health services within the home and community to individuals ages 5 and above. These services include but are not limited to: Provide goal-directed short-term counseling interventions to individuals with significant mental illness in the areas of functional skills, daily living skills, use of community resources, and assistance with medication management to stabilize an individual's condition. Prepare and carry out Individual Service Plans with individuals receiving services. Document case activity in accordance with program policy and maintain case records in compliance with agency, regulatory, and accreditation standards. Coordinate services with other providers within the community (e.g. probation/parole officers, teachers, mental health providers, medical support, DSS workers) to help them developing support networks within the community. Provide coverage 24 hours per day, 7 days per week with other professional staff. Provide intensive services in the client's residence and community at a frequency based on the need of the individual. Ensure that service documentation is individualized based upon the needs and progress of the individual. Collaborate with wraparound service providers through service coordination efforts that are documented in the client record. Complete daily progress notes, discharge reports, service authorization reports, incident reports and other case documentation according to agency procedures Submit all documentation in accordance with agency deadlines. Participate in FAPT meetings and court proceedings as needed. Attend clinical supervision with Clinical Supervisor on a weekly basis and attend agency meetings as scheduled.
