Responsibilities Provide peer support and mentorship to individuals with mental health conditions, substance use disorders, or co-occurring disorders. Assist clients in developing recovery plans, setting goals, and identifying strengths to promote self-advocacy and empowerment. Utilize crisis management and intervention techniques to de-escalate situations and ensure client safety during emergencies or behavioral crises. Employ motivational interviewing and harm reduction strategies to support clients' motivation for change and reduce risky behaviors. Maintain strict confidentiality of client information while documenting interactions accurately. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams—including social workers, addiction counselors, and behavioral health professionals—to coordinate care and support services. Work effectively with culturally diverse communities by demonstrating sensitivity, respect, and understanding of different backgrounds and experiences. Requirements Valid certification as a Peer Support Specialist or equivalent credential demonstrating lived experience with mental health recovery or substance use recovery advocacy. Strong skills in crisis management, crisis intervention, and behavioral health techniques to ensure client safety during challenging situations. Knowledge of addiction counseling, harm reduction principles, motivational interviewing, and social work practices is highly desirable. Ability to communicate effectively with clients from diverse cultural backgrounds while maintaining professionalism and empathy.
