Position Summary The Environmental, Health, & Safety (EHS) Technician supports the Company Environmental, Health, and Safety Coordinator in maintaining a safe, compliant, and environmentally responsible workplace across the Company's Colorado facilities. This position is responsible for conducting routine safety and environmental inspections, identifying hazards and compliance concerns, documenting findings, assisting with corrective actions, supporting employee training, and helping maintain required safety and environmental programs and records. The EHS Technician will spend significant time in the field working directly with employees, supervisors, and site management. The position requires the ability to work in an active scrap recycling and transfer station environment, including around heavy equipment, mobile equipment, vehicle and pedestrian traffic, outdoor conditions, and industrial processes. The EHS Technician will work closely with the EHS Coordinator and site management to identify opportunities for improvement, address safety and environmental concerns, and promote safe work practices throughout the organization. Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities SAFETY Conduct scheduled and routine inspections of facilities, work areas, equipment, and operations to identify safety hazards and compliance concerns. Monitor site conditions, employee work practices, and procedures for compliance with company safety policies and applicable OSHA requirements. Document inspection findings, observations, corrective actions, and follow-up activities. Work with site management and supervisors to address identified hazards and verify that corrective actions have been completed. Conduct routine walk-around inspections and observe employees performing work activities to identify unsafe conditions and opportunities for improvement. Assist with incident and injury investigations, including gathering information, documenting findings, taking photographs, and assisting with corrective actions. Log information and supporting documentation. Assist the EHS Coordinator with workers' compensation cases by gathering information, completing required documentation, and following up on assigned action items. Provide safety orientation to new employees and assist with refresher and job-specific safety training. Conduct or assist with pre-shift safety meetings and toolbox talks. Assist with monthly safety training and other training activities as assigned, including preparing materials, coordinating logistics, documenting attendance, and maintaining training records. Formal safety training will be conducted or overseen by the EHS Coordinator or designated management. Assist with the development and implementation of safety programs, procedures, training materials, reports, and employee communications. Participate in monthly safety committee meetings and provide technical information and field observations as needed. Monitor first responder team training and certifications and communicate upcoming training or certification needs to the EHS Coordinator and site management. Assist with administration of the respiratory protection program, including scheduling and documentation of required fit testing. Assist with administration and documentation of required blood monitoring programs. Inspect PPE and safety equipment to ensure appropriate supplies are available and equipment is maintained as required. Coordinate with safety supply vendors regarding orders, inventory, and availability of safety supplies. Assist in identifying trends in incidents, injuries, inspections, and corrective actions and provide information for reports and statistical analysis. Develop and communicate practical solutions for hazards identified in the workplace. Demonstrate and promote safe work practices and professional behavior at all times. Serve as a site-level resource for employees and supervisors regarding routine safety questions and concerns, escalating issues to the EHS Coordinator when appropriate.

ENVIRONMENTAL

Monitor stormwater treatment systems daily or as required to ensure proper operation and identify maintenance or compliance concerns. Conduct and document required daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual inspections and preventative maintenance activities related to environmental systems. Assist with routine and non-routine maintenance of stormwater treatment systems and coordinate with approved vendors as directed. Assist the EHS Coordinator with maintaining compliance with applicable federal, state, and local environmental requirements. Assist with stormwater sampling, inspections, documentation, and other environmental monitoring activities. Assist with hazardous waste and universal waste management activities and required documentation. Conduct and document environmental inspections related to the Company's Stormwater Plan, Air Permit, Environmental Covenant, SPCC Plan, and other applicable environmental requirements. Inspect stormwater outfalls before and after precipitation events and report deficiencies or concerns to the EHS Coordinator and appropriate site management. Assist with spill prevention and response activities, including spill response, cleanup documentation, spill kit inspections, and replenishment of supplies. Assist with identifying environmental issues and implementing appropriate best management practices. Communicate environmental concerns to site management and the EHS Coordinator and assist with corrective actions and follow-up. Respond to environmental issues, spills, and other emergencies as needed, including outside normal business hours when required. General Responsibilities Maintain accurate and timely records, inspection forms, training records, and other EHS documentation. Maintain confidentiality of employee and company information as required. Attend EHS meetings, safety committee meetings, training sessions, and professional development activities as assigned. Work cooperatively with employees, supervisors, managers, vendors, contractors, and regulatory personnel. Communicate safety and environmental concerns in a professional, respectful, and constructive manner. Follow all company policies, procedures, safety rules, and environmental requirements. Perform other EHS-related duties as assigned. Desired Qualifications Strong working knowledge of OSHA General Industry requirements and workplace safety practices. Familiarity with environmental regulations and environmental best management practices. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and meet required deadlines. Intermediate with Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing. Ability to work independently while also working effectively as part of a team. Ability to interact professionally with employees at all levels of the organization, including during difficult or sensitive situations. Ability to identify hazards, evaluate potential solutions, and follow through on corrective actions. Ability to maintain accurate records and documentation. Ability to operate or willingness to learn to operate a forklift and skid steer/skid loader. Bilingual English/Spanish skills preferred. Education and Training Bachelor's degree in Environmental Health & Safety, Occupational Safety, Environmental Science, or a related field preferred. Three or more years of relevant EHS, safety, environmental, industrial, manufacturing, recycling, or related experience may be considered in lieu of a degree. OSHA 30-Hour General Industry certification required or must be obtained after hire at Company expense. CPR, Bloodborne Pathogens, AED, and First Aid certifications preferred or must be obtained after hire at Company expense.

"Train-the-Trainer" certification preferred. Other Requirements Must possess a valid driver's license and maintain a satisfactory driving record. Must be able to travel between the Company's Colorado facilities as needed. Must be able to work outdoors and in varying weather conditions, including extreme heat, cold, wind, and rain. Must be comfortable working in an active scrap recycling and transfer station environment. Must be able to work safely around heavy equipment, mobile equipment, trucks, industrial machinery, scrap materials, and vehicle/pedestrian traffic. Must be able to wear required personal protective equipment and perform duties in accordance with Company safety requirements. Must be available to respond to environmental or safety emergencies outside normal business hours when assigned or required. Must pass a pre-employment drug screen and background test. Physical Requirements The physical requirements described below represent the general requirements necessary to perform the essential functions of this position. Ability to walk and stand for extended periods while conducting facility inspections. Ability to climb stairs, ladders, platforms, and other access points as required. Ability to work on uneven ground and in outdoor industrial environments. Ability to bend, stoop, reach, and maneuver around equipment and work areas. Ability to lift and carry safety equipment, supplies, and other materials as required. Ability to work safely while wearing required PPE. Ability to perform work in varying weather and environmental conditions. Work Environment This position regularly works in an industrial recycling and transfer station environment and may be exposed to moving equipment, trucks, scrap materials, dust, noise, weather conditions, and other operational hazards. The EHS Technician is expected to remain aware of changing site conditions, maintain safe positioning around equipment and traffic, and follow all established safety procedures while performing inspections and other field activities.

$28.00 - $33.00 per hour
