Job Summary The people we serve are adults in treatment for substance use and co-occurring mental health disorders. The Behavioral Health Technician (BHT) is a frontline team member who helps keep the facility safe, structured, and supportive. Working under the direction of the Site Director, nursing, and clinical staff, the BHT supervises and checks on clients, keeps the environment safe, helps clients follow their daily schedule, and writes clear, accurate notes about how clients are doing. This is a day-shift role with a 40-hour weekly schedule. Start date will be late October- early November. Key Responsibilities Supervise and support clients during daily activities, and help them follow their treatment schedule and house rules. Make regular safety rounds, head counts, and room checks, and keep bedrooms and common areas ready for new clients. Watch for signs that a client may be struggling (withdrawal, low mood, thoughts of self-harm, or other safety concerns) and report them to nursing or clinical staff right away. Observe clients as they take their own medication and record it accurately. BHTs do not give, prescribe, or adjust medication. Perform drug and alcohol testing (urine and breathalyzer) using proper chain-of-custody steps. Watch for contraband (items that are not allowed), conduct room searches with a second staff member, and report anything of concern. Provide first aid and naloxone within your training during an emergency, call 911, and follow the chain of command. Transport clients safely to recovery meetings and appointments when needed (a valid driver's license is required for staff who transport). Help clients get to groups and sessions on time, set up group rooms, and check clients in and out. Complete shift notes, rounds and head-count logs, and incident reports in KIPU, Hatch, and Slack by the end of your shift. Give the next shift a clear handoff, and report any health, safety, or facility problems to your supervisor. Attend team huddles and required training, and complete other duties as assigned. Training Requirements During onboarding and your first weeks, you will complete: Abuse, neglect, and safety training. Client rights, cultural sensitivity, and confidentiality (HIPAA and 42 CFR Part 2). Safety and emergency procedures, including naloxone. Substance use and mental health basics, trauma-informed care, and de-escalation. CPR and First Aid (verified at hire, or a willingness to obtain). The RRS two-week (ten-day) BHT onboarding program, ending with a documentation and skills check. Skills Needed Work well with others and communicate clearly. Stay calm under pressure and handle stressful situations. Pay close attention to detail, and follow rules and the chain of command. Be dependable, punctual, and respectful toward clients in early recovery. Understand privacy and confidentiality. Be comfortable using basic computer tools for documentation. Qualifications High school diploma or GED (required). One or more years in substance use, behavioral health, mental health, or a healthcare setting preferred. Experience with co-occurring disorders and de-escalation is a plus. A valid driver's license and a clean driving record for staff who transport clients. A satisfactory Level 2 background screening (Chapter 435, Florida Statutes), TB test, and drug screen before your first day working with clients. Physical Requirements Able to stand, walk, and move around the facility for long periods. Able to lift up to 25 pounds regularly and up to 50 pounds occasionally. Able to bend, stoop, and respond quickly in an emergency. Reasonable accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities under the ADA. Work Environment A fast-paced behavioral health and substance use treatment facility with varying levels of client need. Work is mostly indoors with some outdoor tasks, at a moderate noise level. There may be occasional exposure to challenging or unsafe situations.
