Position Summary The Behavioral Health Technician (BHT) provides on-site behavioral health support to residents in skilled nursing and assisted living facilities. The BHT works alongside behavioral health providers and facility staff to support resident engagement, monitor behavioral and psychosocial needs, and promote continuity of behavioral health services. Essential Responsibilities Provide direct behavioral health support and resident engagement. Observe and report changes in resident mood, behavior, or functioning. Support residents with coping strategies, redirection, and de-escalation. Assist behavioral health providers during facility visits. Identify residents requiring provider or clinical follow-up. Coordinate with nursing, social services, and other facility staff. Support behavioral health programming and resident participation. Complete required documentation accurately and timely. Escalate behavioral, safety, or clinical concerns appropriately. Maintain resident confidentiality and comply with HIPAA, facility policies, and organizational requirements. Qualifications High school diploma or GED required. Behavioral health, healthcare, long-term care, assisted living, or human-services experience preferred. Strong communication, interpersonal, and documentation skills. Ability to work effectively with older adults and individuals with behavioral health or cognitive needs. Ability to work independently while collaborating with clinical and facility teams. Basic computer proficiency. Must meet applicable background screening, training, and facility requirements.

Preferred:

CNA/GNA, behavioral health experience, or education in psychology, social work, behavioral health, or a related field. Scope The BHT provides supportive behavioral health services under appropriate clinical direction and does not independently diagnose, prescribe treatment, provide psychotherapy, or perform duties requiring professional clinical licensure.
