Job Description

Position Summary The Associate Professional (AP) provides direct care and therapeutic support to male youth ages 10-17 with behavioral and mental health needs in a Level III residential treatment setting. The AP supports the Qualified Professional (QP) in implementing treatment plans, supervising daily activities, maintaining a safe and structured environment, and ensuring compliance with North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (NC DHHS) regulations. Key Responsibilities Provide supervision, guidance, and support to residents during daily routines (school, meals, activities, hygiene, and recreation). Assist the QP in implementing individualized treatment plans and behavioral interventions. Monitor and document residents' progress, behaviors, incidents, and interventions in accordance with agency policy and state requirements. Support trauma-informed care practices and encourage positive coping strategies. Participate in crisis intervention using approved de-escalation techniques. Administer medications as delegated and maintain accurate medication logs. Collaborate with therapists, case managers, and other members of the care team to support treatment goals. Transport youth to and from appointments, school, and community activities, as needed. Participate in staff meetings, trainings, and supervision sessions. Ensure safety and cleanliness of the facility by monitoring environment and reporting concerns. Uphold confidentiality, HIPAA compliance, and professional ethical standards.
Qualifications & Requirements Education:
Bachelor's degree in human services, Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, or related field with at least 2 years of full-time experience working with youth in a residential or mental health setting.
Experience:
Prior experience in residential care, mental health, or child welfare preferred. Familiarity with trauma-informed care, behavioral interventions, and crisis management.
Certifications/Licensure:
Must hold or be eligible to register as an Associate Professional under NC DHHS standards. Current CPR/First Aid certification (or ability to obtain within 30 days). NCI (Nonviolent Crisis Intervention) or comparable de-escalation training (or ability to obtain within 30 days). Valid North Carolina driver's license and acceptable driving record.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to set boundaries and maintain professionalism with at-risk youth. Problem-solving and crisis intervention abilities. Organized and dependable with accurate documentation skills. Physical & Work Requirements Ability to stand, walk, bend. Ability to remain alert and engaged during shifts, including evenings, weekends, and some holidays. Willingness to participate in physical interventions if safety requires. Must pass pre-employment background check, drug screening, and health clearance. Compensation & Benefits Competitive hourly rate/salary based on education and experience.
