A Mental Health or Psychiatric Technician cares for patients with mental illnesses. Works under the direction of a physician and works with specialists involved in mental health care, such as psychiatrists and therapists. Monitors patient symptoms and administers medications. Works in a mental health facility or in a hospital or other healthcare facility.
qualified behavioral health specialist is an individual who has received training or education in mental health competencies and has a minimum of three years of relevant work experience and has demonstrated, prior to or within ninety days of hire, competencies in basic mental health skills along with competencies established by the agency, and who are not otherwise designated as providers or supervisors, and who are not required to perform duties covered under the scope of practice according to Ohio professional licensure. Qualified Behavioral Health Specialist have excellent communication skills and establish relationships, collaborating with the treatment team and community providers. Can assist client by identifying methods and activities to help the development of a treatment plan. Can be provided with individualized supports, care coordination of healthcare, behavioral healthcare, and or non -healthcare services to assist with individualized needs. Provide assistance with referring and linking to other healthcare, behavioral healthcare, and non- healthcare services to avoid more restrictive levels of treatment. Work with clinical staff, by utilizing interventions and evidence-based techniques to provide treatment to clients. Identify strategies and session activities along with client; or treatment options such as psychotherapy, or medical somatic services Provide support with the restoration of client's social, interpersonal skills, and daily functioning by aiding the client with medical, educational, spiritual, and other services medically needed to assist with their mental health. Utilize de-escalation techniques, suicidality and lethality assessments, and teaching daily functioning, resiliency skills and interventions to prevent crisis and encourage amelioration
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Work environment can include an agency office, school-based setting, or in the community including client's homes Required one unpaid hour of weekly supervision with Psychotherapist Team Lead Requires typing and computer competency, including Windows applications and Google Drive Complete all paperwork and documentation required by the agency within designated time frames Required to attend agency meetings and training Maintain regular and reliable schedule

EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND / OR EXPERIENCE
A bachelor's or master's degree in social work, psychology, nursing, or in related human services preferred but not required A high school diploma or GED required
