This is a flexible, part-time independent contractor opportunity providing music therapy services at community-based locations throughout Pittsburgh and the surrounding areas. Our music therapists work primarily with young children in learning centers and schools, people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, and individuals in behavioral health settings. Responsibilities Plan and facilitate individual and group music therapy sessions based on each participant's strengths, needs, and treatment goals Use evidence-informed music therapy interventions to support communication, emotional expression, socialization, coping skills, cognition, motor development, and overall quality of life Complete assessments, treatment plans, progress notes, and other required documentation accurately and on time Communicate professionally with Playnotes, facility staff, families, and members of the participant's care team Adapt sessions to accommodate a variety of developmental, behavioral, emotional, physical, and cognitive needs Provide and maintain the instruments and materials needed for assigned sessions; contractors may also borrow available instruments and materials from Playnotes Follow all facility policies, safety procedures, confidentiality requirements, and professional standards Maintain a dependable schedule and communicate promptly regarding cancellations or scheduling concerns Represent Playnotes with warmth, professionalism, creativity, and respect Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree or higher in music therapy from an AMTA-approved program Current MT-BC credential through the Certification Board for Music Therapists Strong vocal and accompaniment skills Ability to independently plan and facilitate engaging, goal-directed sessions Excellent communication, organization, and documentation skills Reliable transportation and willingness to travel to assigned community locations Ability to complete all required background checks and clearances Professional liability insurance or willingness to obtain coverage Dependability, flexibility, and the ability to work independently Preferred Qualifications Experience working with young children Experience supporting people with intellectual and developmental disabilities Experience working in behavioral health settings Experience facilitating both individual and group music therapy sessions Schedule, Caseload, and Compensation This is a flexible, part-time independent contractor opportunity Sessions take place primarily during weekday daytime hours, Monday through Friday Candidates do not need to be available every weekday; however, greater consistency and availability may provide opportunities to build a larger caseload Independent contractors may accept or decline offered assignments and caseloads Available assignments and caseloads will be matched with each therapist's experience, interests, location, and availability When coverage is needed, contractors may coordinate with Playnotes staff members or other contractors affiliated with playnotes to identify an appropriate substitute Services are provided in person at assigned community locations Compensation is paid per completed session and calculated at a rate of $50
