A Music Therapist directs and coordinates recreational activities for people with disabilities or illness to help them improve their emotional and physical well-being, improve motor skills and increase confidence. Leads activities involving music, instruments, and sound. Assists patients with disabilities to learn to use public resources such as parks and public transportation, and integrate in the community. Works with people of all ages, in schools, nursing homes, clinics and other healthcare facilities, or in parks and recreation departments.
Music Therapist Felician Village - Manitowoc, WI Felician Village is seeking a compassionate, creative, and energetic Music Therapist to join our team and provide meaningful therapeutic experiences for the older adults we serve. The Music Therapist will use music and evidence-informed therapeutic interventions to enhance residents' quality of life, promote social and emotional well-being, support cognitive functioning, and create opportunities for connection and self-expression. Key Responsibilities Plan and facilitate individual and group music therapy sessions based on residents' needs, interests, abilities, and goals. Use singing, instrumental music, rhythm, movement, songwriting, music-based reminiscence, relaxation techniques, and other therapeutic interventions. Provide music therapy programming for residents with varying cognitive, physical, emotional, and social needs. Use familiar and preferred music to encourage reminiscence, communication, engagement, and meaningful social interaction. Support residents living with dementia and other cognitive changes through individualized music experiences. Collaborate with nursing, rehabilitation, social services, activities, and other members of the interdisciplinary team. Develop relationships with residents and families while maintaining a respectful, person-centered approach. Document services, resident participation, responses, and progress appropriately. Adapt activities to accommodate individual abilities, preferences, and changing needs. Participate in facility events, celebrations, and special programs when appropriate. Maintain a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment for residents. Follow all applicable facility policies, procedures, confidentiality requirements, and professional standards. Qualifications Bachelor's or Master's degree in Music Therapy from an accredited program. MT-BC (Music Therapist - Board Certified) credential preferred. Experience working with older adults, long-term care, assisted living, memory care, or healthcare populations is preferred. Strong musical skills, including the ability to sing and play one or more instruments. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Creative, compassionate, dependable, and patient-centered.
