The Nuclear Medicine Technologist performs nuclear imaging procedures and related patient care duties while ensuring image quality, radiation safety, accurate radiopharmaceutical administration, and compliance with departmental and regulatory standards. This position supports the imaging needs of a Critical Access Hospital by providing high-quality radiologic services to emergency, inpatient, and outpatient populations.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSBILITIES
Performs nuclear medicine procedures in accordance with physician orders, established protocols and departmental policies. Prepares and administers radiopharmaceuticals using appropriate radiation safety practices. Operates gamma cameras and other nuclear medicine imaging equipment to obtain high-quality diagnostic images. Positions patients appropriately and explains procedures to ensure patient understanding, comfort and cooperation. Reviews patient history, physician orders, lab results and other relevant information prior to procedures. Performs quality control testing on nuclear medicine equipment and maintains appropriate documentation. Maintains accurate record of radiopharmaceutical receipt, preparation, administration, usage and disposal. Maintains compliance with applicable regulatory, accreditation and hospital requirements. Assists with maintaining a clean organized and safe work environment. Participate in departmental quality improvement activities and continuing education. Performs other duties as assigned within the scope of practice and qualifications of the Nuclear Medicine Technologist Communicates effectively with radiologists, physicians, nursing staff, and other health professionals regarding patient care.
EDUCATION/QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE
Graduate of an accredited Radiologic Technology program. ARRT certification in Nuclear Medicine (N) is required. Current Louisiana State Radiologic Technologist License (LSRT) required. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required. Knowledge of radiologic imaging techniques and patient positioning. Ability to operate radiology equipment safely and efficiently. Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks Effective communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to provide imaging services to patients across the lifespan. 1-2 years of Nuclear Medicine experience in a hospital or emergency department setting. Familiarity with PACS and electronic medical record systems. Experience performing imaging exams on emergency, inpatient, and outpatient populations.
