$120,000-$150,000+ annualized earning potential, based on experience, facility volume, patient census, and productivity We are seeking an experienced and motivated Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) to provide specialized wound care services to patients in skilled nursing facilities, rehabilitation centers, long-term care facilities, and other post-acute care settings throughout Alabama. This is a 1099 independent contractor opportunity designed for an APP who enjoys clinical autonomy, procedural medicine, geriatric care, and developing strong working relationships with facility clinical teams. Our practice model focuses on specialized wound-care expertise, efficient facility-based rounding, streamlined documentation, strong physician collaboration, and improving healing while preventing avoidable complications and hospitalizations. Compensation $120,000-$150,000+ annualized earning potential Compensation is based on: Patient volume Facility census Clinical experience Wound-care expertise Productivity Number of facilities covered This is a 1099 independent contractor position , with no health or retirement benefits. Responsibilities Perform comprehensive wound evaluations and follow-up visits Diagnose and manage acute, chronic, and complex wounds Evaluate pressure injuries, diabetic ulcers, venous ulcers, arterial wounds, surgical wounds, traumatic wounds, and skin tears Accurately document wound measurements, characteristics, staging, progress, and treatment response Develop evidence-based wound treatment plans Perform bedside wound-care procedures, including debridement when clinically appropriate and within scope of practice Order appropriate wound-care products, dressings, laboratory studies, imaging, vascular studies, and other diagnostic testing Identify infection, ischemia, osteomyelitis, tissue deterioration, and other complications requiring escalation of care Collaborate with facility wound nurses and nursing leadership Educate staff regarding wound management, pressure injury prevention, off-loading, positioning, nutrition, and skin protection Coordinate specialty referrals when appropriate Monitor healing progress and modify treatment plans when necessary Maintain timely, accurate, and compliant documentation Assist facilities in reducing preventable wound complications and avoidable hospital transfers Participate in wound-care quality improvement initiatives
Qualifications Required:
Licensed Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant Active Alabama license or ability to obtain Alabama licensure Current national board certification Strong clinical assessment and documentation skills Ability to independently evaluate and manage medically complex patients within applicable Alabama scope-of-practice requirements Reliable transportation Ability to travel locally between assigned facilities Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Preferred:
Previous wound-care experience Skilled nursing, rehabilitation, or long-term care experience Experience performing wound debridement Wound-care certification such as WCC, CWCA, CWS, or CWSP Internal medicine, surgery, vascular medicine, podiatry, dermatology, or geriatric experience Familiarity with Medicare documentation and medical-necessity requirements Wound-care experience is preferred, but highly motivated NP/PA candidates with strong post-acute, geriatric, surgical, or procedural backgrounds will also be considered. Contractor Practice Model This opportunity is structured as a 1099 independent contractor relationship . Providers will primarily perform daytime facility-based rounding and will be assigned post-acute facilities based on geographic coverage, census, and practice needs.
