A Psychiatry Nurse Practitioner provides mental health and nursing care to patients with psychiatric disorders, medical organic brain disorders or substance abuse problems. Diagnoses mental illness, develops treatment plans and prescribes medications. Teaches patient's family about the patient's condition. Works at hospitals with dedicated mental health unit, fully dedicated psychiatric hospital or in independent practice working from nursing homes and physicians' offices.

Job Description

Mental health nurse practitioners will evaluate and diagnose patients with mental and/or substance use disorders. The nurse practitioner will work with a collaborating.physician. The APRN will evaluate the needs of the patient and develop a treatment plan. Skills Psychiatric APRN must have excellent written and verbal communication skills. The psychiatric APRN should be prepared to work with difficult and sometimes combative patients. Qualifications and Education An active KY APRN license and
DEA. SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Must be able to make independent decisions when warranted; must be knowledgeable of nursing and medical practices and procedures as well as laws guidelines, regulations that pertain to quality patient care; must have strong clinical skills.
