On-site, residential facility Position Summary The Nurse Practitioner provides primary and general medical care to adults in a residential dual-diagnosis treatment program. Working within an integrated care team, the NP conducts admission physicals, manages residents' general health and chronic conditions, and coordinates medical care alongside the program's psychiatric and clinical providers — in accordance with CARF standards and Maryland regulatory requirements. (Psychiatric evaluation and psychotropic medication management are provided by the program's Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner / prescriber.) Key ResponsibilitiesMedical Care & Assessment Conduct admission history and physical examinations and medical clearance for new residents. Assess, diagnose, and manage acute and chronic medical conditions (e.g., hypertension, diabetes, respiratory and infectious conditions). Order, perform, and interpret labs, screenings, and diagnostic tests. Prescribe and manage medications for general medical conditions within scope of practice. Address health issues commonly associated with substance use (e.g., withdrawal-related medical concerns in coordination with the prescriber, wound care, nutritional and infectious-disease screening). Coordination & Integrated Care Collaborate with the Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner, nursing, clinical, and residential staff to support integrated, whole-person care. Coordinate referrals to specialists, labs, and outside medical providers as needed. Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings and treatment planning as appropriate. Support medical aspects of intake, monitoring, and discharge planning. Documentation & Compliance Maintain accurate, timely, and complete medical documentation in accordance with CARF standards, state regulations, and HIPAA. Ensure prescribing and practice comply with DEA, Maryland Board of Nursing, and controlled-substance regulations. Support accreditation, audits, and continuous quality improvement (CQI) activities. Resident Engagement Educate residents on general health, preventive care, and medication management. Promote a trauma-informed, culturally responsive, and recovery-oriented approach to care. QualificationsRequired Master's or Doctoral degree from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program (Family or Adult-Gerontology). Active, unrestricted Maryland license as a Nurse Practitioner ( FNP-BC or AGNP-BC / equivalent board certification ). Current DEA registration. Active CPR/BLS certification. Knowledge of primary care management and, ideally, the medical needs of individuals with substance use and co-occurring conditions. Preferred Experience in residential, inpatient, addiction medicine, or community health settings. Familiarity with CARF (or comparable accreditation) standards. Experience coordinating care within an interdisciplinary behavioral health team. Core Competencies Sound clinical judgment and strong physical-assessment skills.
