Advanced Practice Provider (PA/NP) — Weekend Inpatient Hospital Coverage 1099 Contractor | As-Needed Weekend Coverage | Farmington Hills, MI Our Pain Management practice in Farmington Hills is seeking an experienced Physician Assistant (PA) or Nurse Practitioner (NP) to provide as-needed weekend inpatient hospital coverage. This is a 1099 independent contractor role ideal for an Advanced Practice Provider looking for flexible, per-diem work providing care to hospitalized patients on weekends. The APP will work under the supervision of the Practice's Medical/Clinical Director and in collaboration with hospital-based physicians, nursing staff, and other members of the multidisciplinary care team. The role is focused on providing high-quality, evidence-based care to patients in the inpatient hospital setting, consistent with Michigan licensing requirements, hospital requirements, and Practice protocols. Key Responsibilities Compliance & Standards of Care Comply with applicable standards of care and all Michigan laws, rules, and regulations governing your licensing board, office, or authority, including maintaining all required licensure and certifications. Follow applicable Practice and hospital policies, procedures, protocols, and clinical guidelines in the provision of inpatient care. Report to and work under the supervision of the Practice's Medical/Clinical Director in accordance with applicable supervisory and collaborative requirements. Maintain compliance with hospital credentialing, documentation, patient safety, and confidentiality requirements. Inpatient Patient Care & Clinical Services Provide weekend coverage for hospitalized patients under the care or consultation of the Practice. Perform inpatient rounds and conduct appropriate patient assessments, including histories and physical examinations as clinically indicated. Evaluate changes in patient condition and develop or modify individualized treatment plans based on clinical findings and evidence-based best practices. Review laboratory results, diagnostic imaging, medications, and other relevant clinical information. Assess pain management and palliative care needs and patient response to treatment and make appropriate recommendations or adjustments within the APP's scope of practice. Identify changes in clinical status requiring physician involvement, additional consultation, escalation of care, or referral. Educate patients and families regarding treatment plans, medications, pain management strategies, and follow-up care as appropriate. Assist with continuity of care and discharge planning when applicable. Documentation & Care Coordination Complete timely and accurate documentation of inpatient evaluations, progress notes, treatment recommendations, and other patient care services in the hospital's medical record system. Record patient information as required by applicable licensing requirements, hospital policies, and the Medical/Clinical Director. Communicate relevant patient updates, changes in condition, and treatment recommendations to the Medical/Clinical Director and other members of the care team. Coordinate with hospitalists, specialists, nursing staff, pharmacy, case management, and other hospital departments as appropriate. Collaborate with the multidisciplinary care team to promote safe, effective, and coordinated inpatient care. Facilitate appropriate handoff and continuity of care at the conclusion of weekend coverage. Qualifications Active, unrestricted Michigan license as a Physician Assistant (PA) or Nurse Practitioner (NP). Current national board certification in good standing. Prior inpatient hospital experience strongly preferred. Pain management, palliative care, hospital medicine, internal medicine, surgical, or other relevant inpatient clinical experience preferred. Experience performing inpatient rounds and managing hospitalized patients within the APP scope of practice. Comfortable working independently in the hospital setting with remote or on-call supervision and physician support as appropriate. Strong clinical judgment and ability to recognize changes in patient condition requiring escalation or physician involvement. Strong documentation, care coordination, and communication skills. Ability to work effectively with physicians, nurses, specialists, and other members of a multidisciplinary hospital team. Ability to maintain professionalism, discretion, and confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA and hospital requirements. Ability to satisfy applicable hospital credentialing and privileging requirements. Reliable availability for as-needed weekend coverage.
