AMX Healthcare AMX Healthcare is seeking an experienced Outpatient Mental Health Prescriber for a part-time contract opportunity with an outpatient mental health organization in Owatonna, Minnesota. The provider will work alongside nurses, certified medical assistants, and other members of a multidisciplinary treatment team to deliver comprehensive psychiatric care to adult patients. This position includes psychiatric evaluations, medication management, treatment planning, brief therapeutic interventions, and collaboration with internal and external providers. Qualified candidates may be either psychiatrists or advanced practice psychiatric providers who meet the Minnesota licensing and prescribing requirements listed below. Key Responsibilities Complete comprehensive psychiatric assessments and regularly evaluate symptoms, medication side effects, and treatment responses. Develop individualized treatment plans based on each patient's needs. Evaluate the effectiveness of medications and treatments and make adjustments as clinically appropriate. Prescribe and manage psychiatric medications within the provider's authorized scope of practice. Provide brief therapeutic interventions using evidence-based approaches, including motivational interviewing, cognitive behavioral therapy, cognitive restructuring, and problem-solving. Use shared decision-making when providing medication education and discussing treatment options. Monitor non-psychiatric medical conditions and coordinate care with primary care providers and specialists. Collaborate with patients, guardians, referral sources, and members of the multidisciplinary treatment team. Develop, review, and update individualized treatment plans in accordance with applicable requirements. Recommend or review psychological testing, laboratory work, and other diagnostic testing. Participate in treatment-planning meetings and assist with treatment-plan development and updates. Review incoming referrals and determine whether services are routine, urgent, or emergent. Provide consultations and clinical recommendations to internal and external providers. Order and review laboratory and diagnostic testing when clinically indicated. Complete clinical documentation accurately and promptly in accordance with organizational standards and HIPAA requirements. Respond to calls, emails, and other clinical correspondence. Participate in committees when requested by the clinical director. Provide services in person or through telehealth, as assigned. Required Qualifications Candidates must meet one of the following qualification pathways: Psychiatrist Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree. Active Minnesota medical license. Board-certified or board-eligible in psychiatry. OR Psychiatric Advanced Practice Provider Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner or Clinical Nurse Specialist credential. Active Minnesota license and independent prescribing authority. Current psychiatric certification. More than one year of unsupervised experience working with adults diagnosed with serious and persistent mental illness. Preferred Experience and Skills Experience leading the psychiatric treatment of adults with serious and persistent mental illness. Experience with medication-assisted treatment. Strong psychiatric assessment, medication-management, and treatment-planning skills. Knowledge of evidence-based mental health interventions. Understanding of billing procedures and prior-authorization processes. Familiarity with local and regional community resources. Experience using electronic medical record systems. Comfort providing services through secure, live video communication. Proficiency with email, Microsoft Teams, and standard computer applications. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Strong organization, time management, and independent decision-making abilities. Ability to maintain patient privacy and comply with HIPAA requirements. Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team. Flexibility in responding to urgent needs, schedule changes, cancellations, and missed appointments. Physical and Work Requirements Ability to communicate effectively by telephone, video, and in person. Ability to remain in a stationary position for extended periods. Ability to operate computers, telephones, printers, copiers, and related office equipment. Ability to move throughout an office setting during the workday. Ability to provide ethical and effective telehealth services. Ability to review and assess clinical records, schedules, and patient information. Ability to adapt to changing schedules and urgent or emergent patient needs.
