Job Description

Overview We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner to join our healthcare team. This advanced practice provider will deliver comprehensive mental health services across diverse patient populations, including children, adults, and geriatrics. The ideal candidate will possess extensive clinical experience in psychiatric assessment, diagnosis, and treatment, with proficiency in EMR/EHR systems such as Epic and Athenahealth. The role involves collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to provide holistic patient care, managing complex cases involving acute and chronic mental health conditions, and ensuring compliance with healthcare regulations including HIPAA and DEA guidelines. Experience in specialized areas such as behavioral health, substance use treatment, memory care, or hospice is highly valued. Responsibilities Conduct thorough psychiatric assessments, including mental status examinations and diagnostic evaluations. Prescribe and manage medications in accordance with collaborative practice agreements and regulatory standards. Administer injections such as psychopharmacology agents, dermal fillers, or botulinum toxin treatments when applicable. Provide patient-centered care through telehealth platforms and in-person visits across outpatient clinics or inpatient settings. Collaborate with physicians, therapists, social workers, and other healthcare professionals to develop individualized treatment plans. Document all patient interactions accurately within EMR/EHR systems like Epic, Cerner, or eClinicalWorks while maintaining HIPAA compliance. Manage complex cases involving acute pain management, substance use disorders, dementia care, or memory care. Perform physical examinations and vital sign assessments; monitor physiological responses during treatment. Educate patients and families on mental health conditions, medication adherence, lifestyle modifications, and health coaching strategies. Stay current with advances in psychiatric medicine including psychopharmacology, ICD coding updates (ICD-9/10), CPT coding, and emerging treatment modalities such as esthetic laser treatments or spinal tap procedures. Qualifications Valid state licensure as a Nurse Practitioner with certification in Psychiatric-Mental Health Nursing (PMHNP). Proven experience working with diverse populations including children (experience working with children preferred), geriatrics (memory care or dementia care), or patients with developmental disabilities. Proficiency in EMR/EHR systems such as Epic, Athenahealth, Cerner, or eClinicalWorks; experience with medical documentation and medical records management essential. Strong knowledge of healthcare diagnosis codes (ICD-9/10), CPT coding, drug enforcement regulations (DEA), and HIPAA standards. Experience in behavioral health settings including outpatient clinics, inpatient units (Level I/II trauma centers preferred), or hospital medicine environments. Ability to perform physical assessments; skilled in medication administration including injections and IV infusions; capable of venipuncture and catheter care if required. Excellent client communication skills; ability to collaborate effectively within multidisciplinary teams; commitment to providing compassionate patient care. Additional skills such as critical care experience (ICU or emergency medicine), telehealth experience, or specialized training in areas like neuropsychiatry or hospice & palliative medicine are advantageous.
