Independent Contractor About Ascend Psychiatry Ascend Psychiatry is a growing outpatient psychiatric practice based in Union, New Jersey. We provide evidence-based, patient-centered care with an emphasis on individualized treatment and long-term outcomes. Our practice combines traditional psychiatric care with modern approaches including medication management, Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS), Spravato® (esketamine), and a whole-person approach addressing factors such as sleep, nutrition, physical activity, relationships, and overall health. We are looking for a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) who is clinically strong, thoughtful, and interested in helping build a high-quality psychiatric practice. Position Overview The PMHNP will provide psychiatric evaluations, medication management, and ongoing treatment for adult patients with a range of psychiatric conditions, including depression, anxiety disorders, ADHD, bipolar disorder, OCD, and other mood and psychiatric disorders. They will also provide evaluations for interventional services like Spravato® and TMS. This position is well suited for a clinician who values autonomy, likes to learn, while also having access to psychiatric consultation and a collaborative clinical environment. Responsibilities Conduct comprehensive psychiatric evaluations and follow-up visits Diagnose and treat psychiatric conditions in adult patients Prescribe and manage psychiatric medications Develop individualized, evidence-based treatment plans Utilize measurement-based care and standardized clinical assessments when appropriate Monitor treatment response, medication effectiveness, and adverse effects Maintain timely and accurate clinical documentation Coordinate care with therapists, primary care clinicians, specialists, and other members of the patient's treatment team when appropriate Identify patients who may benefit from advanced treatments such as TMS or Spravato® Maintain appropriate standards for controlled-substance prescribing and monitoring Participate in periodic clinical consultation and case review
Qualifications Required:
Active New Jersey Advanced Practice Nurse license Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) certification Current prescriptive authority and DEA registration, or ability to obtain Experience evaluating and treating adult psychiatric patients Strong clinical judgment and documentation skills Professional liability coverage as required Ability to practice independently while collaborating appropriately when clinically indicated Is a lifelong learner
Preferred:
Prior outpatient psychiatry experience Experience treating depression, anxiety, ADHD, bipolar disorder, and other complex psychiatric conditions Familiarity with measurement-based psychiatric care Interest in treatment-resistant depression and interventional psychiatry Interest in TMS, Spravato®, metabolic health, or other emerging areas of psychiatric treatment Compensation & Schedule $90-$110 per hour Approximately 10-20 hours per week Flexible scheduling Opportunity to increase clinical hours as the practice and caseload grow Administrative, scheduling, billing, and practice infrastructure provided by Ascend Psychiatry Why Join Ascend Psychiatry?
