A Psychiatry Nurse Practitioner provides mental health and nursing care to patients with psychiatric disorders, medical organic brain disorders or substance abuse problems. Diagnoses mental illness, develops treatment plans and prescribes medications. Teaches patient's family about the patient's condition. Works at hospitals with dedicated mental health unit, fully dedicated psychiatric hospital or in independent practice working from nursing homes and physicians' offices.
Position Summary Arya Therapy Center of NJ is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Nurse Practitioner (NP) to join our interdisciplinary team in a Day Treatment Program serving individuals with complex behavioral, emotional, and/or psychiatric needs. The NP will provide high-quality, patient-centered psychiatric and medical care, contributing to comprehensive treatment planning and stabilization in a structured, therapeutic environment. Key Responsibilities Conduct comprehensive psychiatric and/or medical assessments, including history-taking, mental status exams, and diagnostic evaluations. Diagnose and manage psychiatric conditions in collaboration with the treatment team. Prescribe and manage medications, monitor side effects, and evaluate treatment effectiveness. Provide education to clients and families regarding diagnoses, medications, and wellness strategies. Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team including psychiatrists, therapists, case managers, and nurses to develop and implement individualized treatment plans. Participate in daily team meetings, clinical reviews, and program development initiatives. Ensure appropriate documentation in electronic health records (EHR) in compliance with regulatory and organizational standards. Monitor and address medical issues as needed, referring to specialists or emergency care when necessary. Support transitions of care and coordinate with external providers and community resources.
Qualifications Required:
Current and unrestricted Nurse Practitioner license in NJ. National board certification as a Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) with relevant behavioral health experience DEA license with Schedule II-V prescribing authority (or ability to obtain) BLS certification Minimum 1-2 years of experience in a psychiatric, mental health, or day treatment setting

Experience with adolescents, adults, or specific populations served by the program Familiarity with trauma-informed care and evidence-based psychiatric practices Bilingual abilities are a plus Skills & Competencies Excellent clinical judgment and critical thinking skills Strong interpersonal and communication abilities Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment Culturally competent and sensitive to diverse populations Proficient in electronic health records and documentation Work Environment & Schedule Flexible scheduling available between the hours of 9:00 AM and 9:00 PM , based on program needs and provider availability. Hybrid work model : combination of on-site care and remote telehealth services as appropriate.
