The primary function is to provide expanded primary health care services for a caseload of patients in clinical specializations. Work involves conducting complete physicals, providing treatment, and counseling patients. Primary health care supervision includes medical assistants and nursing personnel. The Physician Assistant works under general supervision, with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.
Essential Functions:
Examine patients to obtain information about their physical condition. Obtain, compile, and record patients' medical data, including health history, progress notes, and physical examination results. Interpret diagnostic test results for deviations from normal. Make tentative diagnoses and decisions about the management and treatment of patients. Administer or order diagnostic tests, such as X-rays, electrocardiograms, and laboratory tests. Perform minor in-house procedures such as I & D's, suturing, in-grown nails, wound care, and infection management. Instruct and counsel patients about prescribed therapeutic regimens, normal growth and development, family planning, emotional problems of daily living, and health maintenance. Prescribe medication. Act as Physician Assistant for bioterrorism in 3 counties. Interface with the local medical community.
Education/Licensure:
Licensed to practice as a Physician Assistant/Nurse Practitioner in the state of Texas and National Certification. Prior experience in a clinical setting.
Work Schedule:
The schedule is to adequately provide patient care during clinic operations. The clinic is open Monday through Thursday 07:30am-5:30pm.
Knowledge, Skill, and Abilities:
Considerable knowledge of principles and practices of modern medicine. General knowledge of state and federal laws pertaining to public health; structure and functions of public health organizations; current social and economic problems pertaining to public health. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships; express ideas clearly and concisely; address audiences effectively; and exercise balanced judgment in evaluating situations and making decisions. Good health and physical condition sufficient to permit full performance of the position.
