Performs technical medical work dealing with the treatment of patients, operation of medical facilities, administering first aid and carrying out instructions of the supervising physician. Work is performed under direct supervision of the physician to whom assigned. This position will have a high degree of contact with the general public in a fast paced medical environment. Will be working as a member of the Health Center team.
I. II. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, ACTIVITIES, & RESPONSIBILITIES
A. Assist GCHC provider staff in the ongoing delivery of primary care for the customers of the Health Center. B. Have over-all custody and exercise security and accountability for all drugs. C. Administer medically necessary and appropriate treatment to patients as directed by the supervising physician. D. Be required to act independently in administering first aid in the treatment of emergency cases pending the arrival of a physician. E. Required to see scheduled/unscheduled clients as the need arises or as directed. F. Be required to create and maintain complete medical records. G. Supervise medical aides in the proper care of patients. H. Participate actively in the Formulary meeting, or other meetings as requested. I. Devise and recommend to his supervisor regarding the health of personnel and patients as might affect their duty assignments. J. Help the nurse or the lab technician in assisting patients or obtaining blood specimens, if possible. K. Performs other tasks or functions as assigned by supervisor or administration. L. Participates in the evaluation of products, procedures, and patient care standards. M. Participates in the evaluation of health care at the Center and in monitoring health outcomes of patients. N. Is responsible for appropriate infection control and employee health programs to include training staff and monitoring compliance. O. Completes medical record and nursing documentation audits and implements system changes for the nursing staff as necessary. P. Travels when necessary to fulfill the entity's needs and attends meetings as necessary to represent the Center. Q. Participates in the preparation of grant applications for the Center and assumes primary responsibility for developing and implementing the medical health care plan. R. Performs other duties as assigned.

Credentials:
1. Graduation from a Physician's Assistant or Nurse Practitioner training program approved by the Council of Medical Education of the American medical Association, or must have passed the examination given by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistant. 2. Must have knowledge of medical terminology, practices and procedures and application of first aid; the maintenance of medical records; the maintenance, security and inventory of drugs, supplies and equipment, the submission of medical and related reports. 3. Should have a working knowledge of laboratory, x-ray, physiotherapy, and OB/GYN. Must have ability to work with patients; to carry out the supervising physician's instructions involving the critically ill or injured, and to recommend care and treatment of patients involving minor illness and injury. 4. Texas State Board of Medical Examiners license. National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) a plus. 5. Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) and Advanced Cardio Life Support (ACLS) certification preferred.
