Job Description

Job Summary We are seeking an experienced and compassionate Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) to join a growing general/family medicine practice in the Salt Lake City area.
Minimum experience requirement:
Candidates must have at least one year of clinical experience practicing as a Nurse Practitioner. This position includes mentoring and providing clinical oversight to Nurse Practitioner students, so recent graduates without at least one year of NP experience will not be considered.
Please note:
This position is being posted through M.D. Diet, but the role itself is primarily focused on general practice and family medicine, not exclusively medical weight management. The FNP will provide comprehensive outpatient care across the lifespan, including preventive care, acute visits, chronic disease management, medication management, physicals, women's health, and routine family medicine services. This position also includes an important leadership component. The provider will mentor and oversee Nurse Practitioner students, collaborate with other healthcare professionals, and help strengthen relationships with physicians, specialists, and community healthcare organizations to develop effective referral networks. We are looking for a provider who is clinically confident, personable, organized, and interested in taking an active role in the continued growth and development of the practice. Responsibilities Provide comprehensive primary and family medicine care to pediatric, adult, and geriatric patients. Perform physical examinations, patient assessments, annual wellness visits, and preventive screenings. Diagnose and manage common acute illnesses, minor injuries, and chronic medical conditions. Order, review, and interpret laboratory testing, EKGs, diagnostic studies, and other appropriate outpatient testing. Prescribe and manage medications within scope of practice. Develop individualized treatment plans and coordinate specialist referrals when appropriate. Provide women's health services, preventive care, and routine hormone and metabolic evaluations as appropriate. Perform common outpatient procedures such as injections, venipuncture, wound care, basic suturing, and other minor office-based procedures. Educate patients regarding diagnoses, medications, preventive care, nutrition, exercise, and lifestyle modification. Maintain accurate and timely documentation within the electronic medical record. Ensure appropriate ICD-10 and CPT documentation and support medical-necessity requirements within an insurance-based practice. Mentor, precept, and provide clinical oversight to Nurse Practitioner students, including reviewing patient presentations, guiding clinical decision-making, and supporting their professional development. Help maintain a structured, positive learning environment while ensuring appropriate standards of patient care. Collaborate with physicians, specialists, clinical staff, and other healthcare professionals to coordinate patient care. Develop and maintain referral relationships with physicians, specialists, clinics, and other healthcare organizations. Participate in professional outreach, provider networking, and community relationship-building to increase awareness of the practice and its services. Help identify opportunities to improve clinical workflows, expand services, strengthen referral pathways, and enhance the overall patient experience. Qualifications and Preferred Experience Minimum of one year of clinical experience practicing as a Nurse Practitioner required. Current, unrestricted Utah APRN license and Family Nurse Practitioner certification. Master's or Doctoral degree in Nursing from an accredited program. Experience in family medicine, primary care, or a similar outpatient environment strongly preferred. Comfortable treating patients across the lifespan. Strong knowledge of preventive care, chronic disease management, medication management, and acute outpatient care. Ability to practice with a high degree of clinical independence and sound judgment. Strong communication, leadership, and patient-education skills. Experience mentoring, precepting, or supervising NP students is strongly preferred. Comfortable building professional relationships and communicating with outside physicians and healthcare organizations. Strong proficiency with electronic medical record systems and clinical documentation. Familiarity with
ICD-10, CPT
coding, insurance documentation, and medical-necessity requirements. Experience in women's health, metabolic health, weight management, obesity medicine, or lifestyle medicine is beneficial. Experience with or interest in additional wellness services such as IV therapy, hormone management, body-composition assessment, and medically supervised weight management is a plus. This is an opportunity for an experienced FNP who enjoys traditional family medicine but also wants a broader role in clinical leadership, student mentorship, referral development, and the growth of an evolving medical practice.
