A Psychiatry Nurse Practitioner provides mental health and nursing care to patients with psychiatric disorders, medical organic brain disorders or substance abuse problems. Diagnoses mental illness, develops treatment plans and prescribes medications. Teaches patient's family about the patient's condition. Works at hospitals with dedicated mental health unit, fully dedicated psychiatric hospital or in independent practice working from nursing homes and physicians' offices.

Job Description
QualificationsRequired Current, unrestricted Nurse Practitioner license in Virginia, Maryland, & DC (or ability to obtain licensure). Board certification as a Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC). DEA registration and prescriptive authority. Strong diagnostic and clinical assessment skills. Excellent communication and patient engagement abilities.
Preferred Dual certification as a Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) and Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP). Experience in outpatient psychiatry. Experience evaluating medical conditions that may contribute to psychiatric symptoms. Familiarity with functional, integrative, lifestyle, or root-cause-oriented approaches to healthcare. Experience treating ADHD across the lifespan. Comfort interpreting laboratory results and coordinating care with medical providers.
