Position Number F0437A Job Description The Ellmer School of Nursing at Old Dominion University invites qualified advanced practice registered nurses with certification as a family nurse practitioner to apply for a full-time, 12-month, open rank faculty position in our graduate nursing program to start August 1, 2026. We are building a diverse faculty and searching for a faculty member who will share and contribute to our mission to transform healthcare by: Preparing exceptional nurses. Extending nursing science. Partnering with our global community. Faculty responsibilities will include didactic and clinical instruction in our advanced practice graduate nursing programs and mentor graduate nursing students. Courses are offered year-round. Participation in scholarship will round out the faculty member's workload. Position Type FullTime Type of Recruitment General Public Type of Recruitment General Public Minimum required education and/or special licenses, registrations, trainings, or certifications Earned DNP, PhD, or other terminal degree. Certified Family Nurse Practitioner. Eligible for licensure in state of Virginia. Two years of clinical experience as an FNP. Minimum required level and type of experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities Recent clinical experience as Family Nurse Practitioner Preferred Qualifications Experience teaching in graduate nursing program. Familiarity with online/web-enhanced teaching strategies. Competition of didactic course work or certification in nursing education is a plus. Washington, DC and the beaches of the North Carolina Outer Banks are relatively short drives from Norfolk About the Department The Ellmer School of Nursing, located at the Higher Education Center in Virginia Beach, VA has an average enrollment of nearly 700 students including 18% African American, 9% Asian, 2% Latino and 8% males. The undergraduate nursing program has a pre-licensure track and a distance post-licensure program with a total enrollment of 350 students annually.

The graduate nursing program consists of 8 MSN concentrations and 3 DNP concentrations, and certification pass rates for advanced practice graduates are on average around 90%, ranking ODU as one of the best schools in Virginia.
