The role balances direct patient management with APP leadership, quality improvement, education, and program development. Key Responsibilities Provide comprehensive inpatient cardiothoracic surgical care, including preoperative assessment, postoperative management, rounds, handoffs, and discharge planning. APPs:
oversee staffing, onboarding, credentialing, scheduling, performance development, and competency assessment. Coordinate multidisciplinary care across surgery, ICU, cardiology, anesthesia, rehabilitation, and ancillary services to optimize patient outcomes. Participate in quality improvement projects, clinical education, protocol development, and department-level leadership activities. Maintain accurate, timely clinical documentation and ensure compliance with hospital policies, regulatory requirements, and standards of care.
Required Qualifications NP:
Board-certified (ACNP or FNP preferred)
OR PA:
NCCPA-certified. Minimum 3 years of cardiothoracic surgery experience. Graduate of an accredited NP or PA program. Current BLS required; ACLS as required by the department. Ability to obtain and maintain active licensure in West Virginia and Virginia. Preferred Skills Proven leadership and team management experience. Strong clinical decision-making, communication, and interdisciplinary collaboration skills. Experience with quality improvement, education, and program growth initiatives.
