Pre-Op/PACU Team Leader Reports To:
GMC Director Position Summary The Pre‑Op/PACU Team Leader is a Registered Nurse responsible for the daily clinical operations of the Pre‑Operative and Post‑Anesthesia Care Unit. This role ensures safe, efficient, and compliant perioperative care; maintains adherence to regulatory and accreditation standards; and supports the mission, goals, and operational objectives of the Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC). The Team Leader provides clinical leadership, supervises nursing and technical personnel, and promotes consistent, evidence‑based nursing practice. Minimum Qualifications Graduate of an accredited nursing program; BSN preferred . Current RN licensure in Delaware or Compact State. BCLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications required. Minimum two years of Critical Care, ER, or Pre‑Op/PACU experience; outpatient surgery center experience preferred. Proficiency with EMR systems (HST, Echart), PACS, and standard clinical equipment. Strong interpersonal communication, critical‑thinking, and patient‑assessment skills. Essential Clinical Responsibilities Provide comprehensive nursing care throughout the Pre‑Op and PACU phases using established standards of practice. Conduct accurate and timely patient assessments; identify risks and respond to complications. Perform IV insertion, medication administration, arrhythmia recognition, airway management (adult and pediatric), and emergency interventions. Maintain patient safety, privacy, and advocacy throughout the perioperative process. Communicate significant patient changes to physicians promptly. Deliver clear pre‑ and post‑operative instructions and complete post‑operative follow‑up calls. Document all patient care accurately, thoroughly, and in accordance with regulatory and facility requirements. Maintain appropriate clinical supplies and uphold OSHA, HIPAA, and Universal Precautions standards. Leadership & Supervisory Responsibilities Provide daily leadership, direction, and support to nursing and technical staff. Oversee staffing, scheduling, and daily workflow to ensure efficient surgical throughput. Collaborate with the Director of Nursing (DON), OR leadership, SPD, and Anesthesia to manage the daily surgical schedule and resolve delays. Conduct competency assessments, performance evaluations, coaching, and corrective action as appropriate. Participate in hiring, promotion, and termination decisions. Lead orientation and ongoing education programs for new and existing staff. Order medications; conduct narcotic audits and chart audits; ensure compliance with safety and regulatory requirements. Facilitate conflict resolution and promote a professional, respectful work environment. Communicate effectively with surgeons, anesthesia providers, physician offices, and administrative leadership. Operational & Administrative Responsibilities Coordinate block time scheduling and communicate changes to physician offices, Business Office, DON, and Administrator. Support fiscal accountability, including hours‑per‑case, pharmaceutical utilization, and supply cost management. Participate in Quality Assurance Performance Improvement (QAPI), Infection Control, Safety, and Medication Management programs. Assist in developing, revising, and implementing policies, procedures, and workflow improvements. Collaborate with other centers as needed to support organizational goals and resolve system‑level issues. Maintain current licensure, certifications, and continuing education. Physical Requirements Ability to perform moderate physical activity, including patient transport up to 300 lbs. with assistance. Ability to stand, walk, bend, push, pull, and respond rapidly in emergency situations. Manual dexterity, near/far visual acuity, color discrimination, and auditory ability required for safe patient care. Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 lbs. with assistance. Work Environment Moderate noise level; high‑volume clinical setting. Flexible hours and potential for long shifts. Frequent exposure to body fluids, blood, and contaminated sharps. Pay:
$45.00 - $52.00 per hour Expected hours: 40.0 per week
