Job Description
Job Overview We are seeking a compassionate and energetic Activities Assistant to enrich the lives of residents in our senior living community. The ideal candidate will possess a genuine passion for engaging with older adults, with experience in planning and facilitating recreational activities that promote socialization, mental stimulation, and overall well-being. As an Activities Assistant, you will play a vital role in creating a vibrant, inclusive environment that supports residents' physical, emotional, and cognitive health through thoughtfully designed programs and personalized interactions. Responsibilities Plan, organize, and lead a variety of engaging activities tailored to residents' interests and abilities, including recreational therapy sessions, social events, and creative pursuits. Collaborate with care staff to incorporate therapeutic activities that support residents with Alzheimer's disease, dementia, or other memory care needs. Assist residents with daily activities (Activities of Daily Living) as needed to promote independence and comfort. Manage activity schedules efficiently to ensure a balanced program that encourages participation and social interaction. Foster a welcoming atmosphere by building meaningful relationships with residents and encouraging their involvement in community events. Coordinate special events such as holiday celebrations, outings, or themed programs to enhance community spirit. Maintain accurate records of participation and resident preferences to tailor future activities effectively. Support residents' emotional well-being by providing companionship and counseling on aging issues when appropriate. Qualifications Prior experience in assisted living facilities, nursing homes, or long-term care environments is highly desirable. Knowledge of Alzheimer's care, dementia care, memory care strategies, and senior care best practices. Strong background in event planning and recreational therapy tailored for older adults or individuals with disabilities. Excellent communication skills with the ability to connect empathetically with residents from diverse backgrounds. Experience assisting with ADLs (Activities of Daily Living) such as grooming, mobility support, or medication reminders is advantageous. Ability to manage schedules effectively while maintaining flexibility for resident needs. Background in social work or counseling related to aging issues is a plus. Demonstrated patience, creativity, and enthusiasm for enhancing quality of life through engaging activities.
