KANKAKEE, Illinois Nursing Labor & Delivery Full-Time 5302 USD $37.54/Hr USD $50.29/Hr Job Description Overview Riverside Healthcare is seeking a dedicated and experienced Family Birthing Center Team Leader to join our team in Kankakee, Illinois. As the Team Leader, you will oversee the operations of our Family Birthing Center, ensuring exceptional care for expectant mothers and their newborns. You will provide leadership to nursing staff, coordinate patient care, and contribute to the continuous improvement of our birthing services. This role requires a strong background in obstetric nursing, excellent management skills, and a commitment to fostering a supportive and effective care environment.
Essential Duties Leadership and Supervision:
Lead, mentor, and supervise the Family Birthing Center team, including nurses and support staff. Conduct performance evaluations, provide feedback, and support professional development. Participation in the recruitment, onboarding, and training of new staff members.
Patient Care Oversight:
Ensure high-quality, patient-centered care is delivered throughout labor, delivery, and the postpartum period. Monitor patient care activities, review care plans, and address any issues or concerns that arise. Provide direct patient care as needed.
Operational Management:
Oversee daily operations of the Family Birthing Center, including staffing, scheduling, and resource management. Ensure the unit is efficiently run and meets all regulatory and quality standards.
Quality Improvement:
Implement and lead quality improvement initiatives. Monitor patient care practices and outcomes, ensuring compliance with hospital policies and best practices. Facilitate regular reviews and updates of protocols and procedures.
Collaboration:
Collaborate with obstetricians, pediatricians, and other healthcare professionals to coordinate care and ensure seamless operations within the birthing center.
Patient and Family Support:
Provide emotional support and education to patients and their families. Address patient concerns and advocate for their needs, ensuring a respectful and empathetic care experience.
Administrative Duties:
Assist with budget management, policy development, and strategic planning for the Family Birthing Center. Participate in administrative meetings and contribute to the overall goals of the department. Engage in ongoing professional education and training to stay current with advancements in obstetric care and leadership practices.
Community Engagement:
Represent the Family Birthing Center at community events and professional conferences to enhance visibility and support for the center's services.
Policy and Procedure Development:
Assist in developing and reviewing unit policies and procedures to ensure they align with best practices and regulatory requirements. Responsibilities Required Experience Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in obstetric nursing, with at least 2 years in a leadership or supervisory role within a labor and delivery or Family Birthing Center setting. Strong leadership and management capabilities. Expertise in obstetric and neonatal care. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Proven ability to manage complex situations and problem-solve effectively. Proficiency in electronic medical record systems and other healthcare technologies. Required Licensure/Education Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required; Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Illinois is required. Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required. Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) and/or Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification preferred. Frequent contact with IV devices and high potential for contact with contaminated body fluids (blood, vomitus, stool and amniotic fluid) does create a high risk. However, appropriate usage of needleless IV system, universal precautions, and protective equipment should greatly minimize risk.
