Job Description

Job Summary The Certified Nursing Assistant, or CNA, helps patients or clients with healthcare needs under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) or a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). Description of Duties 1. Assist with nursing care of the patients: Assist with the plan of care for each patient. Assist with the maintenance of quality care. Responsible for the neatness and cleanliness of the unit as whole as well as individual patient rooms. Can demonstrate competency in age specific criteria as applicable to job scope.
Assist in maintaining supply inventory:
Inspects storage areas for adequate supplies and report deficiencies. Pick up, deliver, and store supplies in appropriate place.
Participate in educational programs:
Attend in-service programs as provided. Attend unit meetings.
Maintain satisfactory communications:
Demonstrate clear and accurate lines of communications. Demonstrate listening and understanding with verbal and non-verbal responses. Demonstrate accuracy in verbal communication. Maintain confidentiality of patient and Hospital. Extend courtesy and consideration for others in interpersonal and interdepartmental relationships. Offer assistance and/or instructions to patients, physicians, families and co-workers in a courteous and attentive manner. Maintain employment record in accordance with Hospital policies: Demonstrated professional manner in work setting. Comply with attendance policies. Adhere to acceptable dress code. Follows Hood Memorial Hospital's Compliance Program and Federal and State Regulatory guidelines.
Demonstrate knowledge of Hospital safety:
Knowledge of all Hospital safety codes and performs duties during both drills and actual emergencies. Report unsafe conditions and incidents. Perform other duties as required. 1.
Previous Experience Required:
The Nursing Assistant will be required to complete a checklist of skills. The unit manager will keep this checklist. Only after the required skills have been demonstrated proficiently to the unit director, will the Nursing Assistant be able to perform these duties independently. 2.
Specialized or Technical Education Required:
High school diploma, GED, or completion of a Nursing Assistant program is required. Enrollment in a nursing assistant program with first semester clinical rotation completed may also be considered.
