Job Description

The Certified Nurse Assistant performs various patient care activities and related nonprofessional services necessary in caring for the personal needs and comfort of patients. The Nursing Assistant assists with patient cleaning, feeding, and preparation for treatment, takes and records vital signs, changes bed linen, prepares treatment trays and other supplies, and assists nursing service personnel with a variety of other patient care duties. Relies on established guidelines to accomplish tasks. Works under close supervision. None High School or equivalent Completion of an CNA training program Communication and Customer Service Skills; problem solving ability, initiative, good judgment.
CNA Patient Care:
This will have been satisfactorily performed when… Assistance is provided in performing data collection (TPR/BP/I&O/Weight). Patients are observed closely and reports observations/changes to assigned/charge nurse immediately. Appropriate care (personal hygiene, linen changes, assists with meals, elimination) is given to patients; Assists with transporting & mobility needs of patients as needed. Specimens are collected, assistance is provided in applying assistive devices (TED hose, ice packs, etc), and catheter care & surgical preps are performed when required. Patient rooms and nursing station areas are kept in an orderly fashion at all times. Patient bodies are appropriately cared for after death with respect and in accordance with established procedures at all times. Patient needs are anticipated and plans time to respond accordingly and in a minimum amount of time. Behavior/physiological changes of assigned patients is monitored and promptly reports changes to assigned/charge nurse. Care to the patients need and level of development is adapted appropriately.
Quality:
This will have been satisfactorily performed when… Knowledge of unit based quality improvement initiatives is demonstrated at all times. Patient care is documented on appropriate forms accurately and legibly at all times.
