This position serves as a Nursing Assistant (NA) in the Nursing Service. At the GS-03 level, the NA will build upon knowledge of basic nursing care and standardized procedures to provide service to Veterans. They performs basic individualized nursing care under the supervision of licensed health care professionals and management of equipment special to the area is required. At the GS-04 level, the NA will provide complex nursing care independently as a member of the nursing care team by assisting higher graded NAs, licensed nursing staff, and other members of the care team. They provide care under close supervision and may perform theses duties in a variety of health care settings such as outpient, inpient, community living care, acute, sub-acute, psychiry. At the GS-05 level, the NA serves as a member of the nursing care team and assist licensed nursing staff in the care of Veterans receiving preventive, acute, sub-acute chronic, maintenance, and hospice care. NAs this level also assume more of a peer educion/mentorship role and are responsible and accountable for maintaining training required and may be assigned additional duties as area needs required.Work Schedule :
Monday- Sunday; roting shifts.
Pay:
Competitive salary and regular salary increases. When setting pay, a higher step re of the approprie grade may be determined after considerion of higher or unique qualificions or special needs of the VA (Above Minimum Re of the Grade).Paid Time Off:

Completion of an intensive, specialized, occupion-reled training course of study or program of less than one (1) year as a Nursing Assistant. Grandfhering Provisions. All NAs employed in VHA on the effective de of this qualificion standard are considered to have met all qualificion requirements for the series and grade held th are part of the basic requirements of the occupion. For employees who do not meet all the basic requirements required in this standard, but who met the qualificions applicable to the position the time they were appointed to it, the following provisions apply: (1) Employees who are appointed on a temporary basis prior to the effective de of the qualificion standard may not have their temporary appointment extended or be reappointed, on a temporary or permanent basis, until they fully meet the basic requirements of the standard. Ability to provide a range of pient/resident care and contribute to the completion of the nurse care plan and recovery of pients/residents. Ability to observe pients/residents' or resident's physical or emotional stus and refer deviions and/or problems to supervisor in a timely manner. Ability to properly use equipment, merials and supplies in simple diagnostic and trement procedures such as bladder scan, continuous passive motion device, blood glucose monitoring machine, specimen collection, etc. Ability to communice effectively with pients/residents, their families and other health professionals. Ability to assist in the full range of nursing care to pients/residents with physical and/or behavioral problems in a hospital, long-term care or outpient setting under the direction of a Registered Nurse and/or Licensed Vocional Nurse/Licensed Practical Nurse. Ability to communice orally with pients/residents, families, interdisciplinary team and other personnel. This includes serving as a preceptor to new NAs by assisting with the coordinion of their oriention and overseeing/assessing their practical experience while in a clinical setting. Ability to recognize and react to emergent pient/resident care situions and intervene while waiting for assistance. For example, recognizing need for basic life support, controlling bleeding and assisting with behavior crisis, etc... Qualifying specialized experience includes nonprofessional nursing care work in a hospital, outpient clinic, nursing home, or other medical, nursing, or pient care facility, or in such work as th of a home health aid performing duties such as: Providing personal nursing care such as providing pre- and post-operive care.
