Position Details:

Full-time (36 hours) Days Sunday - Saturday with rotating weekends 6:00 a.m. - 6:30 p.m.

Education Required:

High School diploma/GED required License, Certification and/or

Registration:

State of Tennessee certification as a Nurse Aide BLS required

Key Responsibilities and Essential Functions:

Assures patient/resident safety Assists in the preparation of units, patient/resident rooms and beds for receiving recent admissions, re-admissions, transfers, emergencies or discharge. Assists in and accompanies patients/residents in the admission, transfer and discharge procedures. Provides post-mortem care. Provides care, which may include shower, bed bath, hands/face washing, oral hygiene, combing hair, back care, dressing residents, changing bed linen, cleaning over bed table and bedside stand, straightening room, and other general care as necessary through shift. Provides general nursing care such as positioning patients/residents; lifting and turning patients/residents; applying/utilizing special equipment, assisting in use of bed pain; urinal or commode; ambulating the patient/resident, and application of the abdominal binders and anti-embolism stockings. Takes and records temperature, pulse, respiration, weight, height, blood pressure and intake-output measurements. Prepares patients/residents for meals, serves and removes food trays, and assists with meals or feeds residents. Distributes drinking water and other nourishments to patients/residents. Performs general care activities for patients/residents in isolation. Answer patient/resident call lights, anticipates patient/residents' needs, and makes rounds to assigned patients/residents. Assists patients/residents with handling and care of clothing and other personal property (including dentures, glasses, contact lenses, hearing aids, prosthetic devices) throughout their stay. Transports patients/residents to and from various nursing units as requested. Reports (and when appropriate records) any changes observed in condition or behavior of patients/residents and unusual incidents. Participates in and contributes to Nursing Care Plans. Assists in maintaining a safe and clean environment by cleaning utility rooms, cleaning equipment and preparing for disinfection or sterilization, reporting equipment that is out of order, reporting other problems to Unit Manager/DON, appropriate handling clean and dirty linen and store supplies on the unit. Establishes and maintains interpersonal relationships with patients, residents, visitors and other health system personnel, while assuring confidentiality of patient/resident information. Attends in-service education programs, as assigned, skills development. Practices careful efficient and non-wasteful use of supplies and linen. May be assigned to ride with residents/patients on transports or appointments.
