Certified Nursing Assistant - Long Term Care, Evening Shift, Part-Time Long Term Care Division of OCPHD 4
Position Summary:
The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) provides compassionate, hands-on care to residents of North Valley Hospital District's Long Term Care Facility. This role is vital in supporting residents' daily living needs and ensuring their comfort, dignity, and well-being. Working in a collaborative and mission-driven environment, the CNA assists residents with personal care, mobility, and other essential activities, creating a safe and supportive home-like setting.
Duties and Responsibilities Resident Care:
Assist residents with daily living activities, including bathing, dressing, grooming, feeding, and toileting. Provide mobility support, including transfers, ambulation, and use of assistive devices. Monitor and promptly report changes in residents' physical or emotional conditions to the Charge Nurse.
Clinical Support:
Take and record vital signs such as blood pressure, temperature, and pulse. Collect and record patient data such as weights, measures, inputs, and outputs. Assist with range-of-motion exercises and other therapeutic activities as directed. Support residents during meals, ensuring dietary needs and preferences are met.
Safety and Compliance:
Follow all infection control procedures and safety protocols to maintain a clean and safe environment. Assist in maintaining a sanitary and organized living area, including making beds and tidying personal spaces. Adhere to facility policies and procedures, including resident rights and confidentiality.
Communication and Documentation:
Maintain accurate and timely documentation of care provided in residents' records. Communicate effectively with residents, families, and interdisciplinary team members. Provide updates during shift changes to ensure continuity of care.
Resident Advocacy and Engagement:
Foster a positive and respectful environment, supporting residents' emotional and social needs. Encourage resident participation in activities and programs to promote well-being and community involvement. Serve as a trusted advocate, ensuring residents feel heard and valued. Maintains attendance by working the hours of the position. Follows policies and procedures regarding attendance, vacation, holidays, sick leave, and leaves of absence. Uses the timekeeping applications efficiently and accurately. Adheres to dress code; appearance is neat and clean; wears name badge while on duty Uses good customer service skills by relating to staff/healthcare providers, patients/residents, customers, and the general public courteously and diplomatically under all circumstances. Compliance with all organizational policies and procedures. Participate in
CQI/QAPI
activities, NVHD Performance Improvement Initiatives, and Disaster Preparedness education/exercises, and complete duties as assigned in case of emergencies/ICS stand-up. Completes mandatory training timely. Demonstrates the ability to make decisions, take appropriate action, and follow tasks through to completion. Effectively collaborates with peers and team members, using tactful, diplomatic communication techniques in potentially sensitive or emotionally charged situations. Demonstrates leadership responsibility and skills, including planning and completing duties with minimal directions from the supervisor when appropriate. Performs other duties as assigned, provided skills, abilities, and qualifications are appropriate and sufficient training is provided.

Physical demands:
While performing duties of the job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; must have speech, vision, smell, touch and hearing corrected to normal range. The employee must frequently lift/push/pull up to 25 pounds and up to 50 pounds occasionally. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus .
Mental requirements:
Must be able to apply common sense to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagrammatic form; must be able to add, subtract, multiply, and divide all units of measure; must be able to read, write, and speak clearly.
Work environment:
Works inside in close working quarters with co-workers. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
Exposures :
Muscular strain, body fluids, behavior of clients/patients/residents, infectious material, chemicals/cleaning solutions, potential allergens such as plants/flowers, and noxious odors.
Education and Certification:
High school diploma or equivalent required. Current Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification in the State of Washington. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification preferred.
Experience:
Previous experience in a long-term care or healthcare setting is preferred but not required. Familiarity with electronic health records (EHR) systems is an asset.
Essential Skills:
Strong interpersonal and communication skills to build effective relationships with residents, staff, and families. Exceptional customer service skills with a compassionate, patient-focused approach to caregiving. Ability to prioritize tasks, stay organized, and manage time effectively in a fast-paced environment. Basic computer knowledge and experience with healthcare systems or related training.
Abilities:
Demonstrates flexibility and adaptability to function well in high-pressure situations, remaining calm in emergencies. Maintains a courteous and professional demeanor under all circumstances, treating patients, staff, and the public with respect and diplomacy. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing. Possesses the physical ability to perform essential job duties, including lifting, bending, and assisting with resident mobility. Appreciates residents' heritage, values, and life experiences with an understanding of the aging process. Demonstrates strong decision-making skills, takes appropriate action, and follows through to complete tasks.
