Job Description
The Perioperative Assistant is responsible for performing various patient care, safety, and technical duties to support nursing teams and surgeons/physicians in surgical and procedural areas. Activities focus on assisting the surgeon/physician in the performance of procedures, using surgical equipment and instruments, and ensuring all ORs are adequately stocked with appropriate quantity of supplies and equipment. This role maintains a safe, hazard free, clean environment that facilitates patient focused care. The Perioperative Assistant will work in a variety of surgical specialties to provide care to surgical patients. High school graduate or equivalent (GED) with a minimum of one year of Surgical Services experience preferred. Ability to read and communicate effectively in English. Basic computer knowledge. Must be self-directed and able to make independent decisions. Willingness to accept new ideas and work under stressful conditions.
The following are preferred:
experience working in patient care experience, knowledge of medical terminology and comprehensive understanding of surgical processes and procedures. Current BLS certification prior to hire or ability to obtain within six months of hire.
