09/01/2025 Position Summary The Adjunct Instructor is responsible for providing high-quality instruction in assigned courses, supporting student learning outcomes, maintaining accurate academic records, and contributing to a positive and engaging learning environment. The Adjunct Instructor teaches courses at various times and locations based on student demand, in accordance with the approved curriculum, institutional policies, accreditation standards, and applicable state and federal regulations.
SALARY:
Allied health faculty members are paid for hourly contact with students at various rates depending on the teaching discipline, academic credentials, and professional certifications.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Instruction and Student Learning Teach assigned courses in accordance with approved course syllabi, curriculum standards, and institutional policies. Prepare and deliver instructional materials, lectures, laboratory activities, clinical experiences, or other learning activities appropriate to the discipline. Foster an inclusive, respectful, and engaging learning environment that promotes student success. Utilize a variety of instructional methodologies and technologies to enhance student learning. Maintain current knowledge of subject matter and instructional best practices. Encourage critical thinking, problem-solving, and active participation among students. Student Assessment and Support Develop, administer, and evaluate assignments, examinations, projects, and other assessments. Assess student performance and provide timely feedback. Maintain and communicate course expectations and grading criteria. Be reasonably available to students for consultation and academic assistance. Identify and refer students to appropriate support services when needed. Records and Compliance Maintain accurate attendance, grading, and academic records. Submit grades, attendance reports, and other required documentation by established deadlines. Comply with all institutional policies, procedures, and academic regulations. Adhere to accreditation standards and applicable state and federal requirements. Maintain confidentiality of student records in accordance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). Professional Responsibilities Participate in required departmental, divisional, and institutional meetings and training as assigned. Collaborate with faculty, staff, and administrators to support student success initiatives. Utilize institutional learning management systems and other required technologies. Support institutional goals, strategic initiatives, and continuous improvement efforts. Maintain professionalism in all interactions with students, colleagues, and the public. Additional Duties Perform other duties as assigned by the Department Chair, Dean, or other designated supervisor. Qualifications Bachelor's degree with an Associate's degree or Associate in Applied Science degree in Medical Assisting or Nursing with at least twenty seven (27) semester hours in-field from a regionally accredited institution is required. OR Bachelor's degree in Nursing with at least twenty seven (27) semester hours in-field from a regionally accredited institution is required. OR Associate's degree or Associate in Applied Science degree in Medical Assisting or Nursing with at least twenty seven (27) semester hours in-field from a regionally accredited institution is required .
Note:
One hired without a bachelor's degree would be required to earn a bachelor's degree within three (3) years of employment. Current AAMA credentialing as a Certified Medical Assistant OR unencumbered license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Alabama is required. Three years' experience as a medical assistant or nurse in a medical or clinical office practice is required. Experience incorporating multi-media instructional techniques into curricula, including instructional technology for web-based teaching and course management utilizing the Blackboard platform is preferred. Experience inspiring and facilitating learning with diverse student populations is preferred. Employment verification letter(s) verifying a minimum of three years of medical or clinical office practice as a medical assistant or nurse . Letter(s) must include employment dates and job title and be on official letterhead with an authorized personnel signature.
  • ONLY when an applicant has a legitimate reason for not obtaining written verification by their own efforts, such as if the business is no longer in operation , an applicant may submit copies of appointment letters or contracts, and if that is not available, you may submit pay stubs or W-2 forms to confirm the minimum of three years medical or clinical office practice as a medical assistant or nurse.
Appropriate transcript(s) identifying the applicant, institution, date degree conferred and verifying the applicant has received the minimum of either an Associate's degree or a Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution. Transcripts may be unofficial for the application process but they must identify the applicant, institution, degree earned and the date the degree was conferred. (A copy of the diploma will not suffice) .
