Job Description
The instructor is responsible for providing high-quality instruction, fostering student learning and success, and supporting the mission of the College through excellence in teaching, academic advising, curriculum development, assessment, and institutional service. The Instructor teaches assigned courses in accordance with approved curriculum, accreditation standards, and College policies while creating an engaging and inclusive learning environment that promotes student achievement and workforce readiness.

Based on education and experience commensurate with Salary Schedule D-1 IC for 9 months (range: $43,792 to $70,958). Additional salary for summer employment (D1 IC for 3 months $13,521- $21,951).
ANTICIPATED START DATE
AUGUST 13, 2026 This position will be based initially at Wallace Campus in Dothan, Alabama to teach at the Houston County Career Academy. More than one position in the same job classification may be filled from the applicants for this position should another vacancy occur during the search process. Instruction and Student Learning Teach assigned courses using instructional methods that promote student engagement, critical thinking, and achievement of course and program learning outcomes. Prepare and deliver instruction in classroom, laboratory, clinical, online, hybrid, or other instructional settings as appropriate. Develop and maintain course syllabi, lesson plans, instructional materials, and assessments consistent with approved curriculum and institutional standards. Utilize instructional technology and learning management systems to enhance teaching and learning. Maintain regularly scheduled office hours and be available to assist students outside of class. Foster a learning environment that values diversity, respect, professionalism, and academic integrity. Student Assessment and Academic Advising Evaluate student learning through appropriate assessments and provide timely, constructive feedback. Maintain accurate records of attendance, grades, and student progress. Submit grades, attendance verification, and other required reports by established deadlines. Advise students regarding academic planning, degree completion, transfer opportunities, and career pathways. Refer students to appropriate campus resources to support academic success and personal well-being. Curriculum Development and Assessment Participate in curriculum development, review, and revision to ensure program quality and relevance. Assist in developing and assessing student learning outcomes at the course and program levels. Utilize assessment data to improve instruction and student achievement. Maintain instructional materials and recommend updates to textbooks, equipment, and other educational resources. Institutional Service Serve on College committees and participate in departmental, divisional, and institutional meetings. Support College initiatives related to enrollment, retention, completion, workforce development, and community engagement. Participate in commencement ceremonies, registration events, orientation programs, recruiting activities, and other College functions. Collaborate with faculty, staff, business and industry partners, and community organizations to advance College goals. Professional Development Maintain expertise in the teaching discipline through continued education, professional development, certifications, scholarly activities, or industry engagement. Participate in required faculty development and institutional training. Remain current with instructional best practices, educational technologies, accreditation standards, and industry trends. Compliance and Administrative Responsibilities Comply with all College policies, Alabama Community College System policies, accreditation standards, and applicable federal and state laws. Maintain confidentiality of student and employee information in accordance with applicable laws and regulations, including FERPA. Ensure compliance with safety procedures and maintain a safe instructional environment. Perform other duties as assigned by the Department Chair, Dean, Vice President, or President. Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Knowledge of the principles, practices, and current developments within the assigned academic discipline. Knowledge of effective instructional methods, curriculum development, and student learning assessment. Skill in developing and delivering engaging instruction using a variety of teaching strategies and instructional technologies. Ability to establish and maintain positive, professional relationships with students, colleagues, administrators, and community partners. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with diverse audiences. Ability to evaluate student performance, provide timely and constructive feedback, and maintain accurate academic records. Ability to utilize learning management systems, educational technologies, and standard computer applications to support teaching and learning. Ability to analyze data and use assessment results to improve instruction and support student success. Ability to organize and prioritize multiple responsibilities, meet deadlines, and exercise sound judgment while working independently and collaboratively. Demonstrated commitment to student success, academic integrity, continuous improvement, and compliance with College, Alabama Community College System, accreditation, and applicable federal and state policies. A high school diploma or GED is required .NOTE:
One hired under this requirement would be required to earn an associate's degree within three (3) years of employment. Specialized coursework (at least eighteen (18) semester hours) in welding OR program-specific teaching experience in welding OR program-specific certifications in welding is required. Six (6) years of successful full-time experience as a practitioner in the welding field is required.NOTE :
If selected, competency demonstrated through successful completion of an approved occupational examination (e.g., NOCTI) within the first year of employment is required. Experience incorporating multi-media instructional techniques into curricula, including instructional technology for web-based teaching and course management utilizing the Blackboard platform is preferred. Experience inspiring and facilitating learning with diverse student populations is preferred.ADVISORY COMMITTEE
The President will appoint an Advisory and Interview Committee to include representatives of the College faculty and staff. This committee will employ appropriate procedures, including the review of application packets, interview, and demonstration of competency, to determine which applicants are to be recommended to the President for further consideration.
