Job Summary A Nursing Simulation Instructor designs, implements, and evaluates clinical simulation experiences to enhance students' clinical decision-making, procedural skills, and critical thinking in a realistic, safe environment. Will work independently, as well as with other faculty and lab personnel, to accomplish student learning outcomes. This position is also responsible for creating simulations, supporting the technical aspects of simulation experiences, and technical upkeep of various simulation equipment. Essential Functions 50% -
Simulation Facilitation, Instruction, Operations, and Technology Management Faculty Collaboration:
Partner with didactic course faculty to integrate simulation into existing courses and support faculty training on simulation methodologies.
Pre-Briefing & Orientation:
Conduct pre-briefing sessions to establish a psychologically safe learning environment, review patient charts, and set clear expectations for student performance.
Clinical Simulation Facilitation:
Facilitate high-, mid-, and low-fidelity simulations using patient simulators, task trainers, standardized patients, and virtual reality tools.
Debriefing & Feedback:
Lead structured debriefing sessions using evidence-based frameworks to guide reflective thinking, evaluate performance, and promote deeper learning.
Student Assessment:
Evaluate student competency, clinical reasoning, and procedural skills using standardized rubrics and objective assessment tools.
Equipment Operation:
Program and operate high-fidelity mannequins, audio/visual recording systems, medical devices, and simulation software during learning sessions.
Moulage & Realism:
Apply realistic moulage, including coatings, simulated blood, and wound applications, and prepare clinical supplies to create an authentic patient care environment.
Troubleshooting:
Perform basic maintenance, testing, and troubleshooting of simulation equipment, mannequins, and medical technologies before and during sessions.
Resource Inventory:
Collaborate with lab staff to manage inventory, track medical supplies, and request equipment repairs or replacements as needed. 20% -
Scenario Development Simulation Scenario Design:
Develop, review, and update evidence-based clinical simulation scenarios and case studies tailored to various levels of nursing education, including pre-licensure, graduate, and specialty care.
Learning Objective Alignment:
Ensure simulation activities align with nursing curriculum standards, course learning outcomes, accreditation standards, and national safety guidelines, including INACSL Standards of Best Practice.
Clinical Concept Integration:
Incorporate core concepts such as patient safety, interprofessional communication, clinical judgment, pharmacology, and ethical decision-making into simulation activities. 20% -
Maintain accurate records of student attendance, performance evaluations, and simulation lab utilization statistics.
Student Mentorship:
Provide remediation, additional skills practice, and guidance to students who require additional support in developing clinical competencies. 10% - Other Duties as Assigned Perform other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Possession of a current, valid Registered Nurse (RN) license, a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN), and three (3) years of direct patient care experience as a Registered Nurse.
