Job Description

Description Long Island's premier academic medical center, Stony Brook Medicine represents Stony Brook University's entire medical enterprise and serves Stony Brook University Hospital, Suffolk County's only tertiary care center and Regional Trauma Center.
Responsibilities & Requirements:
The APP will report to the Division Chief of Hematology/Oncology. Responsibilities may include all or some of the following: Manage infusion reactions and treat as appropriate. Review infusion orders for clarity and modify as necessary. Independently assess and evaluate patients in the infusion clinic of Stony Brook Cancer Center who present with new or progressive symptoms/signs. Review, evaluate, and make recommendations regarding laboratory findings for patients seen in the infusion center. Manage complications of chemotherapy including writing/editing chemotherapy orders. Manage outpatient phone calls including toxicity assessments and recommendations. Provide coverage and management for sick walk-ins. Educate patients and family members regarding chemotherapy toxicities Knowledge of basic software packages and hospital information systems (EMR). Additional responsibilities may also be required as the position evolves over time. Manage and provide coverage for the symptom management virtual immediate care (VIC) program and associated patient care follow up. Liaison and collaborate closely on care plan with patient's treating care team. Saturday hours required. Qualifications
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Nurse Practitioner:
Current NYS RN license. Master's degree in Nursing. NYS license and certification as an adult and/or family Nurse Practitioner.
Physician Assistant:
Physician Assistant's degree with NYS License and certification.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Experience in the management and treatment of cancer patients. Excellent communication skills. Experience with chemotherapy toxicities and infusion reactions.
