Camp Community College is a small 2-year college in Southeast Virginia. Campuses are located in Franklin and Suffolk. There also is a center in Smithfield and Workforce and Innovation Center in Suffolk. The college offers associate degrees, certificates, and career studies certificates in transfer and career/technical programs; credit and non-credit workforce services and training for businesses and industries; special interest classes for the community; and summer classes for youth through the Regional Workforce Development Center. A dual enrollment program for high school students, online courses, and developmental studies classes are available at the college as well. The 10
  • month nursing faculty position for Nursing will effectively fulfill the responsibilities in the areas of teaching, clinical instruction, service to the college & students, scholarly and creative engagement, developing community partnerships, and institutional responsibility .
The 10-month position is a funded position by the Bon Secours Mercy Health System. The 10-month nursing faculty serves as the point of contact for community partners, clinical affiliates, students, and staff in the areas surrounding the development of nursing programs. This is a Grant-funded, Restricted position.
Duties and Responsibilities:
General Faculty Program Responsibilities:
  • Contribute to and support activities aligned with the mission, goals, and initiatives of the College and Program.
  • Maintain expertise in the teaching discipline through ongoing professional development, scholarly activities, research, publications, and participation in professional organizations and conferences.
  • Participate actively in program, departmental, and college committees, initiatives, and sponsored events.
  • Support student recruitment, retention, and overall college growth through formal and informal engagement activities.
  • Demonstrate commitment to student success through course assessment, continuous quality improvement, and alignment with program and student learning outcomes.
  • Promote community engagement and public service activities that support the well-being of individuals and communities at the local, state, and national levels.
  • Meet regularly with the dean to communicate program activities, progress, and areas of responsibility.
  • Serve as a leader and collaborative member of faculty work teams within the program.
Student Advising and Support:
  • Assist with student counseling, advising, and academic planning in collaboration with the healthcare advisor and dean.
  • Monitor and counsel students regarding academic progress from admission through graduation.
  • Support student achievement through academic assistance, referrals, and educational resources.
  • Ensure students are registered for appropriate course sequences to support timely progression and graduation.
Curriculum, Instruction & Assessment:
  • Assist in the planning, implementation, evaluation, and continuous improvement of program curricula to ensure alignment with course and end-of-program student learning outcomes.
  • Utilize effective teaching and learning strategies that foster inquiry, critical thinking, and student engagement.
  • Support departmental, college, and VCCS standards by preparing students to become competent entry-level professionals.
  • Foster student socialization and professional development through instruction, mentorship, guidance, and integration of the college and nursing/allied health mission and philosophy.
  • Collaborate with faculty to review and ensure the quality and effectiveness of student examinations, including alignment with NCLEX NextGen standards.
  • Ensure study guides and instructional resources are available prior to testing and that examinations reflect assigned course content.
  • Coordinate with the Canvas administrator prior to each semester to ensure accurate course shells, faculty assignments, course copies, and updates are completed.
Clinical Coordination & Compliance:
  • Assist with clinical coordination activities for both associate and practical nursing programs.
  • Organize, maintain, and track student clinical documentation and compliance records in accordance with clinical agency requirements.
  • Develop and maintain data tracking systems related to student compliance, clinical requirements, and preceptorships.
  • Collaborate with nursing faculty to organize, schedule, monitor, and maintain clinical placements for students and faculty.
  • Assist with securing preceptorship placements and verifying preceptor licensure and qualifications.
  • Build and maintain strong partnerships with clinical and community agencies to support program needs.
  • Ensure clinical placement schedules, contracts, and communications with clinical agencies are completed and reviewed annually.
  • Monitor and ensure student clinical hours meet required program standards for each semester.
  • Ensure nursing student handbook acknowledgements are completed and maintained each semester within course and/or student files. Special Assignments May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor. KSA's/Required Qualifications
  • Master's Degree in nursing.
  • Two years of clinical experience in nursing.
  • A valid, active, unencumbered Registered Nursing License in Virginia or Compact State.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing with a diverse population of faculty, staff, students and other college stakeholders.
  • Experience with schedules
  • preparing, assigning time, and confirmation.
  • Must be able to meet all clinical partner requirements. Additional Considerations
  • VCCS experience in nursing programs.
  • Experience with the concept-based curriculum.
  • Experience with active learning environments.
  • Two years prior teaching experience in higher education.
  • Experience with curriculum development and alignment, implementation, and analysis.
