Sensitive Position No Job Description Paul D. Camp Community College is a small 2-year college in Southeast Virginia. Campuses are located in Franklin and Suffolk. There also is a center in Smithfield. The college offers associate degrees, certificates, and career studies certificates In transfer and career/technical programs; credit and non-credit workforce services and training for businesses and industries; special interest classes for the community; and summer classes for youth through the Regional Workforce Development Center. A dual enrollment program for high school students, online courses, and developmental studies classes are available at the college as well.

Overview of Instructional Responsibilities:

Camp is seeking a registered professional nurse to assume responsibility for planning, teaching, and evaluating students in the clinical, lab, and simulation areas. The instructor shares in the responsibility of providing quality instruction for the students. Faculty provide educational instruction for the Associate Degree Nursing ( ADN ) students, Practical nursing students, and nurse aid students in the classroom, clinical, simulation, and lab setting, while meeting specific learning needs, dependent upon the students' educational semester. The faculty will be responsible for all classroom content, assist with lab and skills settings, coordinate, develop, and implement simulated activities, and provide modules and orientation related to the assigned clinical facility. The faculty must ensure a positive, professional representation of the nursing profession and college at all times, while maintaining a supportive role for the students.

Clinical Duties & Responsibilities:

Meet all clinical partner requirements. Become familiar with the philosophy, objectives, and policies of the nursing program and the Nursing Student Handbook. Confer with the Lead Instructor/program dean regarding the clinical rotation plan, assigned clinical agencies, and assigned group of students. Plan a faculty orientation day with the assigned agency personnel and spend designated time on the assigned unit as necessary. Each agency has specific requirements. Plan student orientation to the clinical area according to agency policy. Select patient assignments and learning experiences according to classroom instruction and the student needs; give to the student the day prior to the clinical experience when available. Assist students in the integration and reinforcement of learning by relating knowledge and skills of nursing and other disciplines to the learning experiences of the clinical setting. Provide supervision and guidance for the student using components of the nursing process with the assigned patient. Serve as a role model and resource person. Be accessible to students at all times in clinical. Review, correct, and comment on care plans and other written assignments required for clinical experiences and return to students by the following week. Evaluate and record student progress and confer at the end of each rotation and midterm in terms of strengths and areas where improvement is needed; an evaluation is written on the designated form. Maintain a climate conducive to learning. Establish and maintain cooperative relationship with staff and personnel of clinical agencies. Maintain a record of student absences from clinical and report it to the Lead Faculty/program dean. Report to the Lead Faculty/program dean any student problems/concerns that may occur in the clinical setting; record on the Student Evaluation Form, date, sign name, and have student date and sign name. Assist with teaching skills in the campus Skills Laboratory and simulation lab. Additional duties as assigned.

Maintain and exhibit mastery of the area of teaching expertise. Assist in the process of student guidance and advisement. Assist in planning, implementing, and evaluating the curricula leading to an Associate's Degree in Applied Science in Nursing. Effectively use a variety of teaching/learning strategies to promote a spirit of inquiry and to stimulate student learning. Ensure that the student progresses towards graduation in a timely manner by registering for appropriate sequences of courses each semester. Ensure that student folders are kept current and complete with required clinical documentation. Counsel students regarding their academic progress. Assist students in academic achievement through support, referral and tutoring. Have the same responsibilities and duties as a clinical adjunct when assignment includes clinicals. Hold membership and participate in professional organizations through involvement on the local, state, and/or national levels. Pursue professional and scholarly activities through research, publications, attendance, and/or presentations at professional societies or groups. Provide assistance and/or act as a consultant to educational or other agencies. Advance expertise through additional study in areas of specialization. Maintain an active role in nursing program and college activities through individual participation in committee activities and College-sponsored events. Support the growth of the College through both formal and informal student recruitment and retention activities. Support the standards of the College through the implementation of effective teaching focused on guiding the student toward promotion and graduation. Foster student socialization through the incorporation of the mission of the College, the nursing program mission and philosophy, individual instruction, and personal guidance. Must maintain compliance with all clinical and VCCS requirements. Use personal and professional abilities through participation in public service activities that promote the well-being of individuals and groups within the service region of the College, the state, and the nation.

KSA's/Required Qualifications A valid, active, and currently unencumbered Registered Nursing License in Virginia or compact state. Bachelor's Degree Required. A minimum of two (2) years' full-time work experience in the field. Ability to work well with nursing faculty and students to facilitate learning. Demonstrated ability to provide a high level of instruction and engage in a positive academic environment to support students with varying academic and other needs for support. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, with a diverse population of faculty, staff, students and other college stakeholders. Current CPR ( BLS for healthcare providers) and documentation of all routine healthcare employee immunizations. Flexible schedule; ability to travel to Franklin and Suffolk campuses and various hospitals. Official transcripts will be required prior to final offer. Must complete a minimum of 30 hours of CE every two years (per state licensure requirements) Must be able to meet all clinical partner requirements. Additional Considerations Master's Degree in Nursing Experience with clinical coordination. Experience with nursing clinical simulation use in nursing education or willingness to learn.
