Job Description
Become an integral member of a dedicated team focused on improving the quality of life among citizens in southeastern and south-central West Virginia. New River Community and Technical College Provides comprehensive, quality higher education, workforce training and community education programs and services. We aspire to make a difference in the communities in which we serve! We are seeking an enthusiastic professional part-time Instructor of Practical Nursing who is passionate about cultivating the school's mission and objectives through student instruction, guidance, and review in order to ensure successful development of each student. This position is a Part-Time position for the Raleigh County Campus and will report directly to the Nurse Administrator. The position will work collaboratively with management, faculty and staff within the department and college to serve the best interests of the students. Job Summary Instructors are responsible for teaching and supervising students in the classroom and clinical settings. Also responsible for curriculum development and student guidance. This position is a 12-month term; 20 hours per week faculty position. The Practical Nursing Instructor is responsible for the delivery of quality, safe practical nursing education in the clinical, skills lab, and simulation settings. Nature of Work Provide didactic and clinical education to nursing students in the classroom and in a variety of healthcare settings as they progress through three semesters of course work.
Summary of Responsibilities:
- Demonstrate ability to relate and work effectively with students, peers and the public.
- Commit to the mission and objectives of the Practical Nursing Program.
- Meet the academic, clinical and physical demands of the program.
- Assist with Practical Nursing Program administrative duties as assigned by the Director of the Practical Nursing Program.
- Devote the amount of time needed to become an effective classroom and clinical instructor.
- Demonstrate willingness to work in a culturally diverse setting.
- Provide own transportation and be punctual and regular in attendance.
- Demonstrate or be willing to acquire typing and computer skills.
- Communicate with the practical nursing program director and other nursing faculty at least weekly and as necessary.
- Attend a minimum of five (5) Practical Nursing faculty meetings each academic year.
- Attend Practical Nursing Advisory Committee meetings as requested by the Practical Nursing Program director.
- Serve as a liaison to community and professional agencies.
- Assist with the maintenance of essential school and student records to be used for student and program evaluation and follow-up.
- Assist with the planning and implementation of the annual Practical Nursing budget.
- Make recommendations to the program director for classroom and clinical faculty evaluation, appointments and promotions.
- Assist with student admission activities, including testing and interviewing, as requested by the program director.
- Develop course outlines and lesson plans for teaching nursing courses.
- Direct and supervise student learning in the classroom and clinical areas.
- Evaluate and record student performance.
- Participate in evaluation of student learning outcomes and completion of the student learning tracking grid each semester. Report data using the Survey Monkey Tool for course student learning outcome evaluation.
- Participate in counseling and guidance of students related to their course of instruction.
- Select educational resources and materials consistent with program objectives and student need.
- Maintain an environment conducive to student learning.
- Assist with other administrative duties as requested by the Director of Practical Nursing.
- Adhere to the policies and procedures of New River Community and Technical College and the Practical Nursing Program.
- Instructs clinical, skills labs, and simulation courses for the practical nursing program based on program schedule/calendar needs.
- Delivers clinical instruction according to the current course content outline and approved course syllabi.
- Provides students with opportunities to acquire knowledge and practice skills identified in the course learning outcomes using varied and appropriate teaching methods.
- Prepares for clinical, skills labs, or simulation by selecting appropriate learning experiences that are well organized and related to course learning outcomes.
- Provides students with a variety of learning modalities including instructional technology in the clinical, skills lab and simulation settings to augment instruction.

- Maintains open communication with the Lead Cohort/Campus Instructor, the Director of the Practical Nursing Program, and the clinical facility staff.
- Evaluates students' performance weekly, at mid-term and at the end of the semester using the appropriate course evaluation tool.
- Counsels students when appropriate and documents the event using the Student Counseling Form.
- If the faculty member has an Associate Degree they must be enrolled in a baccalaureate degree program, preferably in nursing, with completion within 5 to 7 years of date of hire as demonstrated by submission of transcripts to the program coordinator; Bachelor's Degree

- Preferred Experience In addition to the knowledge/education, the following related work experience is typically required, for this position. An equivalent combination of education and recent, related experience may be acceptable. Have experience as a registered professional nurse within 3 years immediately preceding employment.
- Required Have 3 years of experience as a registered professional nurse which should include: 2 years of patient side nursing care experience in an acute, intermediate or long term care clinical facility; and 1-year experience in one or more of the following areas: teaching supervision or administration: and, present evidence of continuing education.
